Can you tell I got bored there?

Am I the only one who's confused by how they have "sex/love" gods? Why did they create them..? Some I can understand..like Gods of lightning, death, life, healing, etc...but love? How did they even think up love in the first place? It's amusing, and yet confusing.

love being an emotion i think they felt it before they named it love...and as with all powerful forces they couldn't explain the feeling so they passed it on to gods and goddesses...i would guess...i haven't done any research on the beginnings of love gods/esses....but i do know they had some life that symbolized what people wanted in theirs, so exalted them to a position to be an example of what they want to achieve...inspiration i guess you could say?

I would say that they God/dess of Love were beings who symbolsized natures desire to draw to together... parasitical, symbiotic, or hunter, hunted....
Aphrodite is actually a goddess of Lust... And Eros god of Intense attraction.

The Gods/Godesses of Love were usually also in charge of fertility... The male ones took care of fertility of the soil, and the cattle, while the female were in charge of relationships, children, etc. By sacrifing/worshipping you had a better chance of getting the husband/wife you wanted, and have children.

Humans creates gods for just about anything, being in love, as the intense emotional turmoil it is, and the grief or happiness it brings, certainly bring out the need for a deity. You need someone to pray to, or blame, depending on the situation.

i think it's reversed...people copulate as an excuse to love...love is an emotion, a feeling...there are so many different loves...parents, material, personal, children, romantic, etc...that it is definitly more than physical.

there are as many types of love as there are gods i think...i wonder if there's a relation?
