But all in all, I must wonder if anyone knows(roughly) how many "religions" have sprung up based around the worshipping of a single person(not deity).

Why would you worship someone without deifying them?

yes i do jp, and i'm always flattered by random acts of admiration...:stalker or not

but i imagine many religions and cults(obviously) are inspired by one person...buddhism, isn't that based on buddah's teachings?...and i don't think he was originally a god, if he's even viewed as one now...

i imagine as long as there are people willing to worship a person, there will always be something formed...but i believe they're called fans or groupies

and what about all the people that make offerings to his likeness? and then there's the ever popular...rubbing his belly for money...*shrugs* i guess it would depend on your definition of worship...

Given the evolution of Buddhism, I'd say that's debatable. One could say that veneration of the Buddha does indeed cross into the realm of worship.

I'll be happy to. It's certainly not as bad a choice compared to what major religions ask of you.
