I think I agree with the last part of your post, though either way we're being used. My early Christian instruction ran along those lines: you're either going to be a servant of God or a slave or the other guy, so you're best bet is to choose the servant role. Not very satisfying to the old ego.
I think that the major flaw with any religion is that man has corrupted the essence of spiritual experience for personal gain. I don't let anyone else's rules dictate what I do. It's about knowing what your power is worth in the universe. And knowing how to use that power and join it with that of other beings, real or "imagined." Religion is hogwash. Any way you slice it.

man corrupts everything, do you really think personal belief would be an exception?
even the art of joining your energy in union with other forms, requires some sort of dictation, and that art in itself has sprung up in the pagan forms of religious expressions, necromancy, witchcraft, diabolotry, and other forms of god and goddess worship, all fall under the definition of religion.
re·li·gion /rɪˈlɪdʒən/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[ri-lij-uhn] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

what is a person's power worth to the universe, and how does one come to that conclusion, does the universe judge, passion, power or any other human construct to decide who has more worth than another, but that'd be giving it a godlike intelligence, equating it to a religion, even at it's most basic belief.
sadly humans need dictation, we lack the capabilities to see how even what we perceive a harmless action can cause a negative reaction somewhere down the road, hence the need for rules, laws and methods to enforce those society dictations, blaming it all on religions exclusively for telling you how to live, is sort of throwing the baby out with the bathwater...how can anything that can empower, unite and move people to action be hogwash?
it'd make the human state of society hogwash, each person in the world that believes in something, giving it personal religious value being a hog, after a wash?
i've never understood how people who are so adamant against religions, associate them all with the major monotheistic religions, usually narrowed down to their own personal experience with people who were expressing their personal opinion, derived from their experiences...without realizing they're no different than any other religious zealot, they just don't equate their ego with any established religion...what makes a religion basher any different than a bible basher, except a bible basher knows what they believe in?

We are all born with spirits of lead which we must as we grow manipulate into spirits of bright gold. Though sadly it seems most are happy to keep thier heavy souls of lead.

You can look at it as a metaphor for the fleeting nature of human life, or just chalk it up to my being a sick, bloodthirsty monster. Either way, it's all the same.
I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person
" It is easier to write words on water then to try to use argument on a christian"
they're not possesed, all they need is thyamin and some b-12, a hard days work a few beers, comfy couch and some lovin, its like chicken soup for a psychotic. im speaking from expierence.
take em all, take em all, put our back against a wall and shoot em, toe to toe, watch em fall, come on boys take em all.
When I speak of religion though, J, I speak of ALL religion. Monotheist, polytheist, you name it. Dogma is not as important as having some sense of right and wrong that you develop through personal experience. Morality is something that is in some ways nacent, in some ways acquired. But I think as adults we need to be aware of the sources around us and how we glean this spiritual knowledge. It isn't as simple as taking a pill or travelling somewhere once a week. It's about living, and the action or inaction that we choose every day. I don't bash religion. I just see it for what it is.
Wow! I live in Australia, Sydney. Just met someone who is completely possessed! This sunday! She invited me into her house and her emotions changed every few seconds from rage, to forlorn, to normal, to considerate. And always talking to her spirit guide JB (Jeoff Buckley). She'd sneer at me for no reason. She's a cross between gollum (from Lord of the Rings) and that woman from the 'Excorcist'.
For someone who never reads the biblem she knew it, despised absolutely anyone and then went into a rage or tantrum when I asked her how her walk with Jesus was going (she did believe in him). How can anyone deny that spirits aren't real? You bring up that name and demons can't stand it! She had submitted to her demons which he didn't want to confess and she lets them possess her. She has her idols, her world, her pleasures. She knows how she is going to die.
