God of War
Serious DiscussionDiscuss God of War in the Discussions forums; I was just thinking about this one last night..
Can anyone think of a religiously or culturally driven war that doesn't involve the Judaeic/Christian/Muslim god?
The only ...
nah, i think it was pure greed, i've never studied the reasons for the roman's desire for conquering other cultures, but i know they destroyed a lot of amazing ones opening the way for the christ based religions to finish the job

The Hindu religion has been plagued with skirmishes based on conflicing religious opinions. Mostly within the religion's own members though, not so much with other religions per se. For reference do a search for Thugs and history lectures evolving around India up untill the beginning of the 20th century. What seems to be the main issue was a few Kali worshippers had missed the mark of their goddess by a few leagues and made war with worshippers of Vishnu.
Hmm but I guess you mean war between nations and not citizen's unrest over conflicting gods within the same religion?
Skirmishes of religious nature has been present on this sorry rock since the day man discovered that he was not the master of the universe after all. Judaic, christian and moslem religions just excel at it.
If you are thinking about wars between nations I guess we can take a look at the Aztecs and their rain god Tlaloc, demanding no less than human sacrifice in order to be pleased with his people. So they waged wars upon wars with neighbouring nations. Although the acquiring of war prisoners for Tlaloc was only partly their reason, and the expanding of territory and work force (slaves) must also be considered, I guess we can say this is the case in judaic, christian, moslem wars as well - the waging of war under the excuse of religious pretenses. Don't you agree?
But no, I guess no religion surpasses the judaic/christian/moslem in the art of aggression and violence under the pretense of peace and pacifism.
I could tell you why this is so as well, but the sun is almost rising now.. I should get some sleep. Next time maybe.
