Many times instead of facing our fears with courage, we cower. Somehow, we cannot imagine having the strength to overcome the many trials that come our way, but we have the strength we need to overcome the adversity within our lives.
Paul writes to Timothy who was faced with a tremendous task–maintaining a spirit of worship and Christian growth in the early church. If there were ever reasons for fear, Timothy had a few.
However, Paul knew that if Timothy caved into his fears, then his ministry would be ruined. Therefore, Paul writes to admonish his young protégé: "For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline" (2 Timothy 1:7). God wants us to face fear with the knowledge that He will give us the ability to conquer fear’s attempt to paralyze us.
"Do not fear them, for the Lord your God is the one fighting for you" (Deuteronomy 3:22). We triumph over fear as we look to God for the strength to move forward, courageously pressing on because He is the One strengthening us.
Africans say that when a lion is stalking its prey, it will roar very loud. You would think that the prey would run, but actually the roar paralyzes it with fear. Don’t allow Satan’s roar to paralyze you in your faith. Christ is your Savior, and He is your eternal strength.
