I find that the older I get.. the more jaded I become when it comes to certain religions.

I hear 12 year old kids screaming "hail satan" at a Slayer concert.... and I begin to think of the Satanist religion as complete crap.


I don't know if it's come from too many pills, too many bad experiences with goth kids, or some deep-seated prejudice ingrained because of Catholic school. I find myself calling so-called Satanists out.. disbelieving anything they tell me.. and being absolutely certain that the only reason they follow said religion is because it suits their oh-so-gawth image.

I wonder why.

i know exactly what you mean... maybe its the catholic school thing... i duno... ive always been the sorta person to respect that people believe in what they want to but when it comes to satanism it always seems like utter crap and like you said it just seems to suit their image... almost fashionable for some

i think that we all already have realized that many of them simply do it to attract attention. they want that negative response from adults especially because they know how much it bothers them.

It has nothing to do with age. I only cited the 12 year old thing for dramatic effect. I don't care if they're 4 or 40. I still think they're all full of shit.

There are still people out there thinking that to be an individual, all you have to do is be exactly like someone else who is an individual.

Hence all the people "rebelling" in exactly the same way

They don't seem to understand the difference between rebel and conform.

It's not just satanisim, it's everything else, weak minded people flock to anything they see as rebellious and slowly make it conformist.

So basically.. non conformity doesn't exist. At least not for any real length of time.

For these kids its just an image and i may not be a satanist but i know a few people who are, and its a more justified reliogion than catholoisism i tell you! You should really do your research before prejudging people-so much for religious tolerence, we may as well be in the burning ages!

anything that was once considered new and unknown quickly becomes redundant and mainstream ...Satanism isn't alone in this dilema, look at what's happened to witchery, it's now automatically assumed it's wicca, and those who call it that don't even know where "wicca" originated, who made it up or that it's only a few decades old...ignorance to history and popular media is more to blame i think than any christ based religion. The fact that they were at a slayer confirms my theory even more(i think)how many of those kids would have discovered "satanism" if they weren't introduced to it by heavymetal?

i don't think it's just you, i do that too, many people who start talking how they practice an "ancient religion of the wise" when what they really practice is a just a souped up neo pagan practice started by someone who broke away from the golden dawn...

most people don't know what they worship, only that "their friends" do it. Kind of like going to church because it's what your "supposed" to do so you don't go to hell...very few people find their own spiritualism anymore, it's much easier paying ten dollars for a paperback at walden books...

I know both pagans and satanists and they are in no way similar to your stereotypes!!! You should realise not everyone is as shallow and influenced by stupid bands such as slayer who think satan is "cool"

and i'm not saying that, but most of those who proclaim loudly and most obnoxiously are simply followers because of some commercial influence...I find that those who are genuine in their discovery and worship, who came to follow a particular path by seeking and exploring aren't as loud about it...i know a few satanists on this board who are very good, knowledgable persons on the subject, and they aren't running around posting how much they hate christianity, how wonderful satan is, Go to the 600club, now that's where to go and discuss satanism...

Being a "pagan" myself it upsets me a lot of times the egotism that a few books and some commercial confirmation people believe make them experts, a few are clever enough to see the truth about these neo pagan religions, and turn into wonderful discussionist(?) on this board...bringing delightful opinion, even when heavily influenced by wicca...however most are so oblivious to the greater factors of magick, ignorant of the beginnings, and portray themselve little better than the christians who are so sure their religion is the way, i respect very few on this board for their religious, or lack of religious choices...but if you want to see how awing satanists can be, try the 600 club, that place even intimidates me...

the point of my posts in this thread is that most of the "taboo practices" are based on commercial instinct...even in my earliest beginnings a movie influenced me, i can't remember the name of it, but it was about a witch in highschool, and she was no charmed one...where the differences come in is if they are willing to learn more and grow, or accept the words of others as the only truth...

The upside is that a lot of these idiots (sorry, can't be bothered to think of a better term) will grow out of it, but there's a chance that they may bring someone in who sticks with it, someone who wouldn't have ordinarilly have encoutnered these beliefs.
