I'm feeling lonely. We have a board commited to religion and the occult - but what about those of us who don't suscribe to that kind of thing? It can't be just me! If it is just me - I'll make a paranoia board!
Perhaps my paragraph is misplaced in this section of the forum? Speak now!

Perhaps my paragraph is misplaced in this section of the forum? Speak now! | Athiesm is actually a form of religion. Strange ain't it Most athiests may not realize it but forming a whole thought pattern based on the nonexistence of a certain being or beings and joining together to exalt in that belief actually mirrors religion in almost all ways To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. I don't believe in leprechauns. I don't know 100% that leprechauns don't exist just like I don't know 100% that a god doesn't exist. I don't base my whole thought pattern on the non-existence of leprechauns just like I don't base my whole thought pattern on the non-existence of the thousands of gods out there.
Let's see..... I am not a theist therefore I am an atheist?

I qualify myself as an "optimistic agnostic" myself, though I do post a lot on this board. I find the whole idea of religion fascinating...plus there's plenty of human behavior that revolves around it that deserves much pointing and laughing. I'm an atheist.....there are MANY different opinions on what defines an atheist. One could philosophise forever about it. I just simply see it as someone that doesn't believe in god, good and evil, angels, etc. To me the idea of a god existing just doesn't add up. It's a very personal thing.

In my opinion, the underlying common grounds for most people who are labeled atheist is that they do not believe in theology. A theist is someone who believes in theology while an a-theist is just the negative of a theist.
I've met very few atheists who claim that there is 100% no god. Most, however, claim that they have no solid evidence for a god or goddess or flying spaghetti monster or whatever.

I see atheism as a religion in itself for most of them too, since they put faith without evidence into a belief structure that there is nothing up there. A belief in non-belief is not a non-belief at all, its a belief.

Right because there is no definitive evidence of either. So intuition, assumption, logic, faith, etc takes over.

Thanks for your opinions, It's good to know I'm not the only one! It's interesting that Billy mentioned atheists 'Christian bashing' though, as in my experience, the opposite is true. I find most atheists to be calm, rational people. I don't hate religion, I dislike the excuse that it's become.
And yes, I can see the irony in atheism being akin to a religion too

And yes, I can see the irony in atheism being akin to a religion too | I occasionally go to meetings for the Humanist Action League, a secular humanist group at my university. I can tell you that yes, for the most part, they are calm rational people. However, there are a few self-declared atheists who always have something snide to say concerning religion, Christianity in particular, and are ready and willing to spew venom when a more rational approach would be better...just goes to show that it doesn't matter what you believe in: an asshole is an asshole. I had a guy at work try to Evangelize me the other day and this is by far the most common reaction I have ever gotten from Evangelists.
He asked me if I believed in God and the healing power of Jesus Christ the lord and savior. I flat out told him, "No but I was raised catholic, I don't buy into it but I still respect religion"
He said OK and we went back to work, and he hasn't brought it up or shown a grudge at all. I haven't even once been in a situation where I was told I was going to hell or anything remotely like what most atheists pretend happens. Maybe Christians in my area are just mellow, I dunno. But I have a VERY hard time believing Atheists who act like they got rabid psychotic Christians outside their doors burning crosses and reading scripture.

i do not believe religion was created to control, it was created by people who wanted to celebrate their god, whatever that god was...
show one religion that was created for the sole purpose of control rather than being utilized by humans who knew how to control; atheism/atheists aren't any different, how many religious ideals that were founded as part of our nation have they had removed for the sheer purpose of their own personal, religion, do they represent all atheists?
i don't have a problem with atheists, some of the more educated have challenging ideas and a few actually have a sense of humor when presenting them, but i have an issue with those that discriminate against a certain group employing the same methods they say that group is wrong for doing. I'd say hypocracy, but i don't think they realize it, more of an ignorance?
i'm more amazed how little people really seem to know about the religions they say they love or hate, and i agree that atheism is it's own form of religion.
what's the history of atheism and what's a person that simply believes in nothing? To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

It is simply a demonization of a bunch of varied people on the basis of the actions of a few extremists. The point is that it doesn't take a belief or a disbelief in theology for a person to be moral or immoral.
