I was going to make some comment about how no one is scared of natural disasters and how that says something about our society or something equally as grand.

And then I realized that humans have probably never feared mother nature as much as they should have until it was too late anyway.

Thought I'd give you guys an update in case no one watches the news. The hurricane made landfall in Gulf Shores, Alabama... where I live. Lived. Whatever. I lost everything, including my kitten Biff. The entire first few miles inland are under at least 10 feet of water. Almost nothing is left. I'm in Charlotte, NC right now. Not sure what my mom and I are going to do. We're going to try and get back on Saturday. See if there's anything that can be salvaged. Right now I'm just doing my best not to get upset. Keep me entertained so I stop thinking about it.

We don't know. It's hard trying to keep a level head and deal with this rationally. It's not a situation any of us have been in before. Right now we're at my brother's house in Charlotte, NC. We're going back to Alabama on Saturday. We've spoken to friends back home.. and the news is very bad. My building survived.. structure-wise. But it was completely covered in water. Nothing is salvageable until the water goes down. My mom's condo was destroyed. The hotel I work at is levelled, as is Ono Island.. the other place I worked. As it stands now.. we're just counting our pennies, and struggling to get a good plan together. It's hard to say when we don't know exactly what's left of the town. But the bottom line is we have nothing.. so it's a matter of starting over from scratch.

And I know it could be worse. But the full impact of what I'm dealing with hasn't really sunk in yet. Biff.. my kitten.. didn't make it. I'm trying my hardest to deal with that. It's funny.. I don't really have anyone to talk to about this. I can't get in touch with any of my close friends, as they all evacuated. XBeautysDemiseX's number is floating somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico. So.. hi, darkforum. Be my sounding board.
