I know that it's a very simple question but before everyone dismisses it and gives it a simple response I want you all to put some real thought behind this question: Why do you drink?

1) The best friends are made when you've all made yourselves as stupid as possible. You take away all the motor skills and the ability to speak properly, and all you have left is your will not to look like a total fucking asshat. If you can handle a friend drunk and annoying as SHIT, you know you found a good mate.

2) It make my friends jokes funny (especially the stories I've already heard but pretend that I haven't just to see how well rehearsed they have it, or which parts are going to be a little more exagerated this time around.)

I can pretend I'm more drunk than I am and get laid and blame it on that the next morning

4) If I'm in a club where I don't feel comfortable, I can drink and feel at home, not giving a fuck who I talk shit to, or push out of my way as I'm heading toward the bar for more beers or the restroom to piss like a racehorse.

5) I have to drink, otherwise I'm the only sober bitch among my friends who isn't being annoying and so I'm annoyed by all those around me. Give me your god damn keys and let me call you a cab.

6) It tastes good, and I crave alcohol every now and then, just as I crave cigs, coffee, and pot.

7) It gives me an excuse to be a total bitch to anyone I see passing by on the street. My favorite Mardi Gras greeting as I'm passing two old bitches covered in beads with their husbands: "Did you laides EARN those?"

I'm a social drinker. I'm shy with new people, and usually have a few drinks when I go out to loosen up a bit. I also like to drink beer when I watch football...gets me in the mood, so to speak.

Oh yeah, I did fail to mention that. I'm a social drinker, and normally I like to keep a six pack in the fridge for those special occasions like.....just waking up....just before bed....about to go on a long drive, may as well bring it along....things of that nature...

Some close friends just got a kegerator. It's a new gowl of mine to also obtain one.

those of you who have known me for the years i have been here are aware i am no longer of the drinking kind... i drank to make the world stop, i drank so i wouldn't care that i hurt those i loved... i drank because i was expected to be the brat princess... i drank to die... i was saved from the horror that was my life by my twins, but at such a cost... damn... i'm soooo glad i quit in time, but i always did take everything too far... even every now and again, i just want it soooooooooo bad, but then i remember ... naw, no more for me, but you folks go ahead and party it up, as for me I'm out.

I only drink wine, white wine, because i love it's taste

i drink to escape. that and its fun to let go.

1) It tastes good.
2) It's fun.

I drink for a number of reasons... I think. *thinks*

I'll drink when I'm in a good mood and feel like having even more fun than I already am.
I'll drink when someone else is buying, oh hell yeah!
About... maybe once a year I'll have a severe emotional crisis or something close to it at least that I just am not dealing with -at all- so I'll pick a liquor that I know treats me well, and drink it straight, drink it fast, and drink it on an empty stomach. The result is that all of my mental barriers come crashing down, and as miserable as a drunk that I turn into at that point, I feel MUCH better by the time I'm sober again.

That's actually interesting... Alcohol does actually have a very pleasant flavor if you know how to drink it right. *grins* My landlord, he's 19 and he can't drink the hard stuff straight to save himself.

Myself, I personally wouldn't choose Crown Royal as my first pick, but he seems to really like it mixed with coke. I was trying to teach him how to drink it straight, he couldn't do it. I did it, and having never had a shot of it before I was pleasantly surprised by its actual flavor.

I find if you're doing a shot, you can get the hidden flavors of the alcohol by taking the shot, letting it sit in your mouth for a couple seconds, that way the fumes hit the back of your throat and prepare it, then you swallow. Less burn, more flavor... it's good stuff that way!

I will admit to enjoying the taste of Merlot and wine. I also kind of like a mild buzz every now and then.
What I don't understand is drinking with the intent of getting falling down drunk.

reading between the lines tells me you either didn't read it or need to be spoon fed/shown on an etcha-sketch. i gave you the benefit of the doubt.

No, I did read every post in this thread, it's just one of those things that I don't really see the need for. To me you can do all of those things without needing alcohal to lower your inhibitions and the cost of getting completely smashed seems to outweigh any gain, at least from my viewpoint. I guess that it's just because of my different lifestyle, I have never been someone who enjoys going out to parties with large groups of people. I'm more reclusive.
