Christmas itself is actually about the birth of Jebus H. Christ; without that event, Christmas would not exist, nor would any of that Santa Claus crap. However, our particular culture has secularized it and made it a national orgy of consumer whoredom.

i see christmas as not a religious holiday....it may have been the reason christmas came to be, but today, i don't think itz really the case anymore....sure, itz all "Joy to the world, our King is born" and yaddah, yaddah, yaddah, but i think christmas has evolved from a religious holiday to a more festive/family holiday....

i'm not religious in anyway and i fuckin' love christmas.....itz all about the family and the joy of it for me.....the presents are nice, but i love all the little things.....the christmas tree, the stockings, santa, the lights, candycanes, the food, all of it....i love everything christmas encompasses (except the religious aspect)......itz just a good-fell happy holiday.....some people hate it for whatever reason, but i fuckin' love christmas....it makes me happy and giddy.....

like, why do we have valentine's day? not for saint valentine..commercialism

well.....now i don't know how true this is, but i once heard that christmas was actually a celebration of a real man who was known as St. Nicolas (hence, St. Nick).....he s'posedly gave golden coins to the poor families once a year.....i dunno if that's true or not....

America is great. You can do all the Christian holidays even if you aren't a Christian. Don't like the birth of Jesus, we have Santa Clause. Don't care about the ressurection, we have the Easter Bunny.

well i'm with six i love christmas!!!!!! its great to spend with the family and friends and open up presents and all of that other good stuff....

Hm, not really, Chrismas has taken so many traditions from so many places that its certainly arguable about whether it would exist without Christianity or the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, plus Santa was the invention of Coca-cola, he may well still be around, as would 'Christmas' trees, at least in Germany. It would simply have a different name, there's been celebrations on the darkest day of the year before Christianity of course.

Today its just the biggest of the gift-giving holidays, personally, I quite like it.
