Actually, they're based on a legend based on the actual Dracula. And I'm pretty damned sure Vlad didn't kill millions by draining their blood...more like thousands...he also wasn't nearly as evil as he was portrayed to be. While his methods were atrocious, he was simply fighting off invaders that had been opressing his countrymen for generations.
