| The Value of 'Honor' -
04-08-02
What is 'honor'?People abuse this word. They disciminate, apaul, and ridicule those who have it or speak of it.They assume it always refers to following a certain 'walk of life' or some spiritual essence pertaining to perhaps religion.Seriously,do you think you have honor? Is honor retained if you mock someone else or go out of your bounds to make room for the present situation? If you lost everything that made you live, would you lose your honor too?I am tired of people who say I have no honor when if fact they more than likely have no idea what honor is.I am against drugs, alcohol, all that shit. That is honorless. What purpose is there in helping handicap yourself, how does that help you deal with life? That is all that is.And fighting, sword or gun or fist...combat is combat, regardless. It may have stipulations, but the code is there for those who have it.But it is not written in stone that it may or can fade,or that you may lose or gain honor in the process.Honor I think is your overall value of respect for yourself, others beliefs, and the truth. If you do not stand up for what you believe in,that is not honor. If you let people say things or if you give up the debate about a topic you care about, that too is not honor.Honor is a sign that you care about something, that you put it first and then your other opinions.I do not respect the honorless, and you know who you are.But that can change,or it may not.But this isn't about that-this is about a value that seems lost in the world as we know it.It was once highly refined as being more valuable than life itself-if you lost your honor then you may as well die.Nowadays we have these punks who think drugs make them smart, and worse things happen in the real world than you can possibly imagine,so honor seems to be something of the past.Is it?
Has honor vanished from our society as people in general? Is it just a memory? What do you think? Quiet winds that carry the sakura leaves...

I have a personal "code" of honour if you will; I follow it, yet I intend for no-one else to be restricted to my belief structure etc.
It's quite rigid, although the only qualification for what I shall or shall not do in life merely required a single act of a vow, a personal declaration (after considerable thought, for I can not reverse the process) that affects my actions following. Thus far I have made three vows in life.
The only reason I believe I have this "code" is that it is the only structure in my life that I believe is constant. I change daily, the me yesterday is considerably different from the me today; yet, I still have those same three beliefs that I hold more strongly than anything else. Others might say this is outdated, and certainly I'm quite fond of the Romantic principles of honour, chivalry, etc. (however many of these principles seem to have originated via literary traditional, creating mythological visions of real people). A sense of honour doesn't make someone a "better" person, merely different. Bismarck once said "Fools say they like to learn from their experiences, but I prefer to learn from the experience of others."
"Move that one of your pieces, which is in the worst plight, unless you can satisfy yourself that you can derive immediate advantage by an attack." -Adolph Anderssen To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. Once again off you blabber...so you think it's honorable to come and tell everyone they have no idea what they are talking about...you are the only one with honor here...insulting, putting down and putting yourself above all others...too me that is not honor. That is vanity! Honor is defending those unable to defend themselves, honor is knowing when to back down, and let another take the light, honor is standing by your word...it's not about who is better with what weapon, who has more intelligence, it's about doing what's right...rather than what your ego wants. That's my opinion... To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Honor is just another moral restriction keeping the few capable from becoming truly powerful...

In my opinion, honor is personal integrity. It's having a strong or guiding belief, and striving for it.
I suspect honor in today's society is somewhat outdated... At least, honor by my definition. I don't see that many driving forces exist anymore. Openmindedness/political correctness seems to be more important.

It is becoming outdated.I see that as a true pity. Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relatively to other such matter; second, telling other people to do so.

Honor most of the time gets you walked all over. Because people walk all over me all the time when you defend others and show compassion people will not treat you right so you have to be a bitch.......to get respect..where i am..or threating.

In truth Honor really has no definition..... it is a liquid word meaning one thing to each.... one mans/womans honor could be anothers ideal of immoral behaviour.... to attempt to define ones own ideal of honor is ok.... yet to attempt to define honor in a broader range is to defile the very word and your own sense of honor.... honor in a way is akin to love in that it can be defined many ways.... I find your character quite repugnant G.O.M..... you portray yourself one way yet act in a manner unsuitable to what it is you portray..... which is both hypocritical and mannerless... learn some tact... or at least learn when to shut up.... I agree with Dyshade at this moment in time... Honor is fluid. Its holding to one's principles. Its rising above one's baser instincts. Its many things... to many to list... to few for society's own good. ___Nick_the_Rogue___ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
