Some shops over here have their security shutters on the inside of the glass (If the shopfront is listed as of historical significance for instance) the only problem is that when you're drunk and a little bleary eyed you can't see this fantastically clean glass and wander up to look at something interesting through the shutters only to come to a painful stop six inches or so away from where you expected.

The Early hours of Saturday morning are always best for observing cases of mystical forcefield collisions

I was working at a fast food place, my first real job. The place had the regular fast food area, as well as a sushi/noodles bar, a deli, and a pizza-by-the-slice area. I was working the pizza counter. It was slow, just after the lunch rush and I was in the back washing up some pans. I notice this lady up front at the counter, so I go up and ask her if she'd like anything. She says no, so I tell her to let me know if she decides on anything, and go back to what I was doing, keeping an eye out in case she tries to get my attention. She stands there staring at the pizza in the case for several minutes before calling me up to the front again.

She points at two of the pizzas, which have labels on the glass to indicate what type they are.

"What's the difference between the cheese pizza and the pepperoni pizza?" she asks.

*after a couple of seconds wondering if she's joking* "The cheese pizza only has cheese as a topping," I replied, figuring that would be enough to let her figure out the rest.

*short pause, more looking at the pizza* "Well, what about the pepperoni pizza?" she asks.

*in a slow, clear voice so there will be no confusion*
"The pepperoni pizza has pepperoni on it."

There, everything is perfectly clear, right? Wrong.

"Does the pepperoni pizza have cheese on it too?", she asks.

"Yes, ma'am. It has cheese too." (At this point, my head is beginning to hurt.)

"Oh, okay," she says. Then she stands there staring at the pizzas again for another two minutes, not saying a word, before finally saying, "thank you," and walking off.

She was more stupid than even some of the people I had to deal with working at Tower Records...

I looked around for five mintues for a newspaper I had in my hand the whole time.

hrm, keys, that reminds me of a story of mine

I had gone to some local concert, and before getting out of the car i had stuck my keys on the floor to tie my shoe and didn't pick them back up. I locked the car and went in and didn't notice them missing until i went to leave. At first i had thought that somone took them out of my jacket which i had put in a "safe" place (although you think it would have made me think since my cell phone was still there )
so at this point i call my parents and wake them up saying "hey i think my keys are stolen" at which point they told me that i needed to find a ride home because the concert was an hour away from where i live and it was approaching midnight. this wouldn't have been so bad if i hadn't had to take 2 of my friends home (one of them trippin his balls off).
so what did i do? find a cop. we looked all over the place until finally he said "did you check your car?"
he was in it in about 5 seconds with a slim jim and then just mumbled something about being more careful and left.
didn't make it home on curfew that night, and damn would it have been fun to go home in the back of a cruiser

A guy I knew back in the long ago eighties swallowed a half a sheet of acid when he got pulled over, he was summarily arrested for a warrant and ended up in the psych ward for over a year in Santa Clara, Ca. .

About six months after he got out of the psych ward in the jail he was driving us up to his place in Mountain View up 101 when he just came to a screeching halt in the middle of the highway/ a little off to the side but fer fucks sake/ popped his hood and jumped out screaming about how the car was on fire and his wife was going to kill him.... there was no fucking fire..... he had stopped taking whatever meds they had been forcing him to take to stay out of house arrest
