Starfleet starships would probably hold their own against Imperial Star Destroyers by using the photon torpedoes. But I think the Tie fighters would soon be all over them like hornets.

The Super Star Destroyer and the Death Stars would really ruin their day.

Quantum torpedoes are twice the power of photon torpedoes and you have to take into account the numerous amount of starbases Starfleet has. TIE fighters also have no shielding compared to Starfleets shield everything policy and TIE`s mostly use Laser weapons which wont have any reconisable effect on any post Next Generation shielding.

I think the Empire would win. Starfleet has no common-use fighters (you never see any, do you?) and the Empire does have shield equipped fighters (TIE Advanced, Assault Gunboats, etc)...Between the overpowering ships and swarms of Fighters, the Empire would get them.

I mean, really, there are like 2 phaser banks (exaggeration I know, but there are just so few) on a Starfleet ship...the average Star Destroyer (Imperial Class) has what, 50 starboard 50 port? Or was it 30 and 30? I can't remember. In any case, the Empire would simply be overwhelming.

Its still lasers, missiles and ion cannons Vs phasers and quantum torpedoes. Star Trek shields are also designed to withstand phaser fire comapred to TIE fighter shields degined to only withstand their weaponry.They wouldnt be able to stand up against those weapons, most of the Empire`s battles would be just like DS9`s Way of the Warrior battle only on a much greater scale.

Actually, the gap is enormous, comparible to the USA (starfleet) and Iraq (Empire).

As near as I can figure, the fastest ships in Star Wars (like the Millenium Falcon) could make '.5 past light speed'. I would guess it Trek terms this would translate into warp 1.5.

The Enterprise in TNG could get up past warp 9.6 I believe.

Plus there's the shield and weapons advantage Red already mentioned. The Imperial ships wouldn't dent the shields of the Starfleet ships, and Starfleets phasers would cut through the Imperial shields and hulls like a hot knife through butter.

And yes, Starfleet does have 1 man fighters. They were used in the DS9 episode where Sisko retakes DS9 from the Dominion.

Yeah it acts kinda like a EM pulse from a nuke, disrupting ship electronics...but thats still a low level pulse designed to break through low powered shielding and a different type of hull plate.

Actually the crystals don't produce the power, they just control and focus it. The power comes from matter-antimatter reaction, which I think happens within the crystals themselves.

Ion cannons are meant to penitrate shields and fry electronics. They do no actual physical damage, but because of their nature they can't be stopped by conventional shielding.

Of course against Starfleet shields they would amount to no more than a pretty light show.

Don't forget the fact that Starfleet can transport troops directly into the Empire ships and drop a few nice big photon grenades or some such, then "beam me up Scottie" the hell out of there. Bye bye Empire.
