And boy, is my tolerance for self indulgent intellectual pretension tired. When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

I considered it to be pretty bland myself. What really bothers me is how pop-culture works like this are taken as worthy historical reference by the uninitiated.
I'm sure the French and other European countries that pride themselves on history are laughing their asses off at us over this one. de vagorum ordine dico vobis iura

but to remain on topic, the huge cult of people reading it freaked me out. i made a sound decision to have nothing to do with dan brown. no book, no movie. 好きなものは好きだからしょうがない!! So, fuck it. It was a decent book. The movie ought to be not bad at all. Tom Hanks is a great actor..... at first he did not seem to fit the part..... but after seeing the preview it looks like it may be well done..... I'll just be watching the movie. I'd read the book, but I don't enjoy putting my learnings on history to test. As for Tom Hanks, everything that guy says is hilarious. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I liked it, but I DO think that it over hyped. I think I would have read dispite the hype. I think I liked it mostly because I have a personal interest in art history whereas I think the normal person finds it very boring...
My flatmate has the fully illustrated version of this book which is awesome. It always helps to have the images in front of you. I'm sure if you weren't familiar with all the paintings and architecture, it might just fly over your head. have you seen my marbles?

i wonder if the movie will do it justice. i really saw Harrison Ford playing Robert Langdon tho.

I wonder if that's because the book describes him as looking like Harrison Ford.
The movie might be okay. I was discussing with my brother how once you get past the complete fabrication and falsification of facts, the terrible dialogue/characterization, the lame and overly obvious political agenda, the poor spacing of important plot points, the demonization of the male gender coupled with the tragically ironic, unintentional, but blatantly chauvenistic stereotyping of women as being serene, perfect, good, pure, but completely useless (we had that already, thanks.), the terrible writing...
Once we get past those initial flaws, it's not a bad story. Cut out 400 pages or so and it might be worth reading. I'm going to finish the last hundred pages I have left out of pure masochism, though. When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. As for fabrication and falsification of facts let us not foget that this book is FICTION!!! Wow... fiction.... I think you may have forgotten that one important fact.... fiction is storytelling... stories may resemble reality and yet in no way do they have to impart any truth To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. Man, I must be some kind of frickin' genius...either that, or Brown just isn't smart enough to write really smart characters. the movie is generating a lot of interest...i guess the book does too, when i was working in florida some of the most rented disks were two we had done documentry style about the codes peceived in davinci's work...tempting, it would even have two people discussing the disk in line...one pro and the other con.
i'm expecting the movie to do well...it could do it by star power alone, but people are fascinated by the conspiracy. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

That's even worse. There is no conspiracy. The book is a work of fiction. Brown, unlike some other authors *cough*Frye*cough* isn't trying to pass this off as actual fact. Shadowborn To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
