In Oklahoma there is a proposed law makeing it illegal to smoke in any public place. Places such as bars, bowling alleys etc. would no longer be filled with smoke. I think this law is a very good idea seeing as how many people are sickend by smoke. Children can be harmed for life if they are around smoke too much at a young age. People now a days seem not to care. What do you think about laws such as this?

I just read the other day in yahoo news and watched on the news, that they have done a study on the money spent by americans on weight induced illnesness and smoking related.

Well it seems america spends more money on sicknesses induced by being over weight, than that of smoking. Insurance companies are less likely to want to insure your life if you are over weight. They'd rather choose the smoker lol.

i think its rather odd,that people are putting more reference to the deaths caused by smoking more then the death that, junk foods, driving drunk, and drug overdoses cause. now dont get me wrong i drink as well and smoke pot every once in a while as well as cigarettes on a daily bases, but if they are going to regualte smokers they should atleast research everything as a whole, not just cigarettes. thank god they havent outlawed drinking and smoking completely.

The reason the laws are after smoking and not overeating/drinking etc. is because the sidestream smoke is dangerous/repulsive to everyone around them and it SMELLS bad and people are allergic to it. The same can not be said of someone who is eating a great deal while sitting next to you.

Okay Duchess, here's my case and point.

I'm photosensitive. Not in the "my skin will burn upon contact with light" uber goth way. It hurts my eyes and reduces visibility. One can plainly see that there's a lot of artificial light in this world. I hate artificial lights. They annoy the hell out of me. They're repulsive, and expensive to support, and I actually have a negative physical reaction to them (albeit not as bad as your allergies). My point is, just because I can't stand artificial light, should I try and convince people it's a bad thing, or initiate and support legislation against it? No, of course not. People need light. People like light. While I'd be better off without it, I recognize the needs of other people. Get what I'm saying?

C'mon Duchess be serious. You can avoid smoke easier than I can avoid lights. You don't see me bitching about it every time the subject comes up.

But for a moment, you say that artificial light actually hurts your skin? This interests me . . . . Sun hurts my skin terribly [even through several reapplications of 50SPF, but that aside], but I didn't think it was possible to be harmed by artificial light . . . .

I never said that, my skin is quite unaffected by light. Just the eyes (that's what photosensitivity is you know).

Oh well. Yeah, my eyes are also super-sensitive . . . . Mom says it's because I have blue eyes. But my teachers yell at me if I wear sunglasses in school . . . . So I just have to squint and shield my eyes a lot . . . .

Actually the same can be said about people over eating next to me. For one its a freakin sick gluttonous site, that I'd rather not have to view while trying consume my own reasonable amount of food. And its not all that easy to consume a plate of food while there is a gigantic pittifull mass of humanity sitting across from me devouring a cow.

And someone being over weight can be dangerous. Just the other day at Knott's Berry Farm, a large, ok gigantic woman, broke the saftey harness in a ride resulting in her falling a 100 feet to her death, barely missing other reasonable sized people on the way down. No body else was hurt but you can imagine how pissed off they may have been. Their ride was ruined by someone who had no respect for the boundries of a human body.

Now they are crying about the safety supports not being strong enough for a woman of her size. Fuckin whaa! If you are too big to ride something safely, then you do not need to be riding it. Oh but noooo..... that would be wrong. Pollitcally Incorrect I suppose

The truth of the matter is that nobody is dying from being surrounded fat people, or smokers. It may be sick and it may be annoying to one another, but it sure isn't going to cut your life any shorter. If smokers are going to be raped of the ability to smoke in public, then skinny people should be able to go into public without the disgusting sight of food whores.

Bottom line is we are talking about things effecting our "quality of life" And there are so many things that people don't like or don't want to be around that if we start making laws to prevent these things, then we start picking away at our so called "freedom"
