my belly button piercing is infected- what should I do?

And yes, I have considered amputating the whole of my lower body, and gouging out the flesh around my flesh, and letting maggots eat away the infected flesh, but unfortunately I dont think those are covered by my insurance.

Clean the ring, cover it in a disinfectant and put it bac in, run it through the hole. Should fix it. If it doesnt, take it out and leave it out.

Ok, although I am loathed to the second option, thankyou.

Any ideas about permanent avoidance of infection?
I run it through with warm water each day but that obviously doesn't work.

heh, it doesnt bloody matter now, I was cleaning the ring in the bathroom and I dropped the ball closure down the sink. Clever me.

I don't know anything about piercings. I'm glad that i'm not going to do anything like that to my body. To me that seems very painfull. But i hope that your belly button will be fine.

Its not painful, a bit infected but nothing life threatening

i know that you're not in the states, but here we have a product called 'dial soap.' it's just a general antibacterial soap that doesn't have perfumes or anything else that will irritate the skin. use something like that to clean it three times a day while it's infected. after you've cleaned it you can use saline solution (contact solution) to lube it up a bit. try not to play with it too much, but make sure that you move it in and out of the area while you're cleaning it. make sure you don't use anything like peroxide or alcohol to clean it... that will just make it worse. also, try not to wear anything tight against your belly button. wear loose fitting clothes for the next 4-7 days.

ArSiNiK's advice even worked for my dick piercing.

i dont know where you are from, but back home we had a product called bactine...its a disinfectant used to help heal cuts, etc....i would recommend using that or a similar product...all my friends who have piercings used it and never had any problems

A few of my own tips to add to Arsinik's really good advice. ( from my piercers shop and because I am studying to be a BM'er)

I use a piercing aftercare product called H2Ocean. If not then I keep a antimicrobial for the just incase because the long use of anti-bacterials can lower the white blood count (which for me is a VERY bad thing). And more bacteria now adays is very resistent to anti-bacterial soaps.
Always wear loose fitting clothing around the waist after a navel ring.

Also keep the cleaning procedure for any piercing simple that way should you get a very nasty reaction you can immeditely or a doctor (god forbid) can immeditely know what product might have caused the problem.
For the most part all starter navel rings should only be a simple plain bannana bar or plain ring, NO extra jewelry. You would be surprised how many shitty places stick jewelry on a place that is not ready for it in Tampa.

You know... Your own urine is sterile to your own body, so if you were to pee on it, in theory it would keep it clean.

ty all, spesh Arsinik, I got some disinfectant stuff and cleaned it but unfortunately I havent got a new ring for it yet, I should really go and buy one.

It was pierced about 5 months ago.

I cant wear banana bars in it because it is too high up, I had it done so I could get the bottom of it pierced and have a banana in that and a ring at the top.

no problem... go get another ring though as soon as possible, otherwise the infection will close the hole up.

now how do you plan on paying me.. check, cash or sexual favors?
