Do we have any on DF?

In all the profiles it says *user* is not a member of any public groups and I was wondering what a public group actually is and if it's possible to start or join one?

ps. when did we get new smilies? why wasn't I informed?!?

as far as groups, i don't think anyone's bothered to make any official groups.
it'd be cool if we made groups that were, say, devoted to art, or photographers, or some common interest.
but if we do groups like "HOMOS" that's more like setting up cliques, and we'll just be asking for more conflicts.

the common interest groups, however, i am intrigued by. you gave me some ideas.

It's weird that people feel compelled to divide themselves into cliques like HOMO even online when they don't (personally) know the other members of that clique.
Strange how far people will go to feel accepted, isn't it?

Edit: At risk of getting murdered by the mods, perhaps if the admin on DF wasn't so laissez-faire they could set up public groups around interests such as photography, art, etc and if something happened on DF or a mod noticed something on the web that would interest those users they could send it to that specific group?
It's a good theory but it would probably work better on a forum or server which paid its mods for their work.

actually i was going to talk to garg about it. that was precisely my idea.
garg's busy, and nothing going on around here really seems to warrant that much time. the groups wouldn't be so hard that we should be paid to work this.

What has Garg been busy doing lately? He hasn't been on DF for, like, a month or something. It's weird...like a forum version of Mr Bennet, always hiding in his library.

people stressed him out around here, and he had his studies. that's the extent of my knowledge. i have a forum i haven't been too in a long time too. it just happens. when he's needed he shows up though.

What's he studying?

from week to week i go from talking to one person and alternating to others.
the only person i've consistently talked to from here is rebeckah. although i'm finding that spaceghost and livingshadow are good conversationalists, just haven't been talking long is all.

I actually know quite a few of the other HOMO's in real life. And the others I've been talking to online for several years. Why don't you get your facts straight before you type.


If the mods of DF got paid there'd be no living with them. Plus, they don't do enough to merit any monetary compensation. As for garg's approach to how he runs his forum... I welcome it. Reminds me of the original board (which you weren't a part of and thus have no idea about), whose owner never even posted. He just left us all to do our own thing. It worked out well.
