ok. i know that people who just post stupid stuff on purpose are annoying, and i'm not defending them in here, but i am getting so sick of seeing people jumping into threads and telling people that they have to post intelligently, or post something intelligent.

before anyone jumps in, this is NOT about people who post stupid shit deliberately. i.e. if you have a problem with NMaries, Rockport Ronny, Darky Dark Dark etc. etc. take it somewhere else, this is not what we're discussing here.

no-one has control over how intelligent or not they are, hence not everyone is able to post something intelligent, or correctly spelt and/or punctuated, and the behaviour i am seeing in so many posts is discriminating against people who maybe don't have quite as impressive an intellect as others in here. there's nothing in registration that says you have to be intelligent to join darkforum, so no-one should have to put up with this from members once they're here. everyone seems to think this is a hotbed of activity for intellectuals only. WRONG. just as in the real world, we have plenty of smart people, plenty of not-so smart people, and plenty of average people. if you can understand why it's wrong to bash someone for being black, chinese, short, fat, handicapped, etc. then you should, hopefully, get this.

to be blunt, some people are not intelligent, and some may be intelligent but are not what one would term "intellectual": you will always find people more and less intelligent than you. that does not mean that they have no right to post, it does not mean they don't have anything interesting to say, and it absolutely does NOT mean that you have any right whatsoever to jump on them, their posts, or their level of intelligence or lack thereof so BLOODY WELL PACK IT IN!

The problem is, too many people view intelligence as a virtue rather than an advantage. Being intelligent doesn't make you a better person in anyway. I'd rather hang out with Forrest Gump than Hitler, y'know what I mean?

Can I just add that just because somebodys spelling or grammar isn't great or thet aren't very knowledgeable about a certain subject doesn't make them unintelligent either.

We have the General Forum for crap. And perhaps Friendship and Humor. The theme forums had best stay reasonably on topic and goddamn serious.

If you just post for the purpose of posting (IE- talk without having anything to say), I daresay you should stuff it. But that is my opinion... I despise useless crap on forums anyhow. I guess we just differ in opinions on this.

aet, i'm not talking about just the general forum; this is going on all over DF. it's also not about whether someone is being comical or being serious. as i said to begin with, this is nothing to do with the people who are a disruptive influence due to the fact that they're just goofing off - to varying degrees.

someone could be trying to respond to a post in one of the 'serious' forums, in a perfectly seriously manner, yet still be unable to generate what would count as an "intelligent" reply. maybe they can't spell well or don't know how to punctuate their writing. maybe they're not in possession of a large and eloquent vocabulary. perhaps, even, they simply don't have the capacity to fully grasp the discussion and its content, objective, and themes. this doesn't mean that they don't have ideas about it, which they have every right to express. so, the response may be poorly formed, badly-worded, or without the evident understanding the smarter people have managed to imbue their posts with. it doesn't matter. if they're trying to join in, they deserve to be welcomed not derided for their lack of communication skills and/or intelligence.

yes, sweetheart , they do, but it's on purpose. a lot of the gurners i've chatted to are very intelligent; they choose to write as they do for effect and to rile the DF members who are easy bait. they're just having their own version of fun. it can get on your nerves if you let it, but if you just remember that you're responding in exactly the way that they want you to, it's not so hard. personally, i love 'em to pieces. hehe if you want to confuse them, try responding to their stupidest questions with serious answers

i've just reread this and feel that i may need to clarify it. i am talking about two completely seperate groups of people here: the ones whose posts lack intellect through no fault of their author (whom i am defending in this thread) and the group of people who post stupidity for stupidity's sake (whom i am not referring to when i say cut it out). i am only asking tolerance of the ones who are less able, not the ones who choose to appear so.

So i always accept that as norm..

i'm none too fond of the ones who spam and post pointless stuff or hate. some of the arseholes can be quite amusing, but it often gets taken too far or made too personal. however, i have all the time in the world for people who try their best to join in whether they're able to sound entirely coherent or not.





hell, i'm guilty of posting stupid stuff myself some of the time, which is part of the fun of the place, but knowing when to get back on topic or cut out the silliness is just common sense, and i think a good dose of that can more than make up for lack of brains. you don't have to be a rocket scientist to take part in here, just aware and considerate of other people.
