I just got a pm from some guy regarding my avatar, saying he works for Alchemy Gothic and they don't like people using their artwork in such a manner.

Asked me to change it, has no proof that he actually works for them... why they would post it on the net at all if they don't want it used in "such a manner" ...I don't know...

And really, is using it as an avatar really that awful? Am I giving it a bad name? *smirks 'n then laughs softly* I think it'd be worse if I wore pink bow ties in my hair, and frilly dresses, and used that avatar while preaching about love and happiness... but that's just my take on it.

So I ask you, the people, what would you do? When the person has no proof, when it could be any random fuckwit... when it probably is just some random fuckwit, knowing the natures of some of the people who come here... (*no offense to any of my friends... y'all know who you are*)

maybe what I should do is take it into paint, and edit the A off the skull's forehead, then it technically is no longer copyrighted by them..

I'd keep it on unless they manage to track your IP address and mail you a court summons. Otherwise who cares. If nothing else, you're providing them with free advertising. Someone likes your avatar, you tell them where its from and wham, they've got another potential customer...

What the hell are they gonna do about it? Even if it is them, just set them on "ignore". You're not a corporation, you're not a business, what are they gonna do, sue you? And even if that was their plan, like they could figure out who you are, send me $25 and I'll send them a computer virus that makes all images on their site unviewable, then we'll see who comes out on top.

if he has no proof, then dont...if he comes back with some proof then that is a different story...tho i do know that the alchemy gothic ppl are pretty picky about copy rights and what not. but i dont see how your having it as your avatar is bad...hell seeing it reminded me that they were still aroung *lol* they should think of it as free advertising

if he was really from the company, he would have voluntered some info to ya......like their web addy or somesuch....and like was said above, it's free advertising

*shrugs* Art copying is usually considered flattery. Exept by greedy bastards who tend to drain every $ out of would be artists. And of course, would be artists themselves (I must refer to commercial audio crap (can't call it music) like spice girls ect.)

this is a comforting thread with all the images I use, and never once has anyone said anything to me about the images, like it's been mentioned if you are not profiting off of it, you are not claiming it to be your own work...I see you doing nothing wrong...I'd listen to the others...
