Oh woe is me.. - 4 Weeks Ago

I really really wanted the BMW F 650 GS Duel Sport but BMW stopped making it in 2007 and my local dealer does not have any more for sale. He said he would be getting two F 650's in June but they are not the same models as the 2007 models and he said BMW has stopped production in the US of the 650 model in favor of the larger F800 line.

So fuck BMW I am going to have to go with the Triumph Scrambler 900 2008 Model

The Triumph looks fucking cool for a british bike and is also a duel purpose leaning more toward street bike. The big plus is that the dealer says they can get any color model and have 5 on hand

Me is happy now. So, screw BMW, you have lost a customer due to your ignorant ending of an excellent line of duel purpose bikes. Now Triumph will get my business and like it

That really sucks. those GS' are awesome bikes.

I'd have thought you'd have gone for a Triumph Tiger if you wanted a GS.

Scramblers are completely different.

My dad rides a Honda NTV650 Deauville. the new NTV700s are awesome tourers, though a Transalp is probably more like a GS.

talkin of bikes, i bought myself a new lid today for mine

brand new off the line, came out yesterday.

Caberg Trip Tova.

Absolutely awesome. My ex had a caberg flip front ages ago and my old instructor had one.

I'd recommend a Trip to anyone. they do them in a few different colours, matt and gloss, but this is the first patterned one i've ever seen.

and even though it's like, patterened, it's matt. there's no gloss coat.

Although usually matt lids scratch up horribly easy, my old man bought one in titanium a year ago and it is still perfect.

Flip front, double visor, wind stop attachment, great cooling and if you exhale hard and mist it up, it demists in a fraction of a second. it's great.

The Scrambler rocks. If I cannot have a GS I want a happy old school scrambling bad ass bike

The tiger is nice but it does not really evoke anything in me like the Scrambler does. Brings me back to the days of rallying around town on my old school '73 Honda CB 350 Four

Yeah, its either the Scrambler or maybe the Bonneville Unless the dealer can cough up a GS.

Looks like an awesome helmet I need to start looking at them and see which one would be good to get

I may go back and check out the Tigers at the dealer just for the heck of it

I certainly wish we here in the states had the same options for bikes you folks have.

haha, i'd love a bonnie.

CBs FTW! my first big bike was a CB500 with an aftermarket full fairing. although my CB was a bit different than your 350

I'm sure if you wait about you could get one low milage second hand.

One of the dealerships near me gets bikes in second hand that have less than 100 miles on the clock. mostly from people who buy them and can't handle them. there was a 996 in there once tha a woman bought and she dropped it on its side once, and took it in. she couldn't walk it because it was too heavy, and dropped it and couldn't pick it up again. it had a hairline scratch on the side fairing.

Those KTM's look pretty nice but they also look like they would be a bitch to drive cross country or for more than a few hundred miles.

Looking at the Tiger I am pretty impressed. It looks like a single duty bike but is really an overall one. It does have a higher price tag than the Scrambler but also has a bit more power.

NOOOO!!! I want it NEW Nah I might take a low mileage used but would prefer new.

The '73 CB 350 Four was the first time Honda tried the Four cyl. on the CB model, maybe any model for that matter. For a 350 it rocked off the line, did real good through the middle but conked out at the top. It would kick about 95 MPH if I pushed it. It was goddamn excellent on the corners though.
I might like to get a Honda but I do not like alot of the looks on the newer models they have put out. The last Honda I rode was a Pacific Coast 900. It was a good bike but I did not like the window dressing/ ie fairing, bags, etc etc... would have felt better and looked better dressed down.

Yeah, we have a great biking scene over here. Funny since we have a reputation for a shitty country with bad weather and all of that junk.

I love my bike. I'll never give up motorcycling.

You guys got some beautiful country there.

I for sure need a duel purpose for the US though. Something I can drive on the highway and dive off into the desert for some dirty fun

Haha, you'd love where I live.

My village contains one of the craziest and harshly intense 4x4 tracks in the world. Devils Pit.

Devils Pit - 4x4 EXPERIENCE

Next to that is the caves. One of the best naturally formed motorcycle tracks ever.

I used to have a supercross i would take up there.

I want another

That would be cool

Would need a good dirty speeder for that territory

I want a Husky

My friend in Crescent City, Ca. had two frankenstien Husqvarnas from the seventies and those goddamn things would wheelie in mud they were so all fired up fast The first time I drove the beast 250 which was the smaller one the goddamn things throttle stuck full bore and tore off. I held on for about 10 seconds before I was bucked off lol

He apologized and sprayed some gunk shit on the throttle cable and it drove ok. Damn thing was loud though. It sounded like a pissed off wolverine in a room full of coffee cans

my dad still swears by brittish motorcycles and german cars. he's only settled for american in his older retirement years, that's all he can afford. He has a beautiful 1973 triumph with a candy apple red tank cleaned and apart to the nuts and bolts, covered lovingly he can no longer put together, an old bsa in a shed that needs a fuel pump and his poor bmw street cycle has a bashed in tank from a dui incident...retirement and disability has been hard on him.

So after very much deliberation and reading hundreds of reviews I think I have decided.
One of the things which worried me is freeway buffeting by high winds and overall distance comfort. The 2008 Suzuki V-Strom 650 cuts through the tarmac pretty nicely from all the reviews I have read. It also does really good in light duty off road tests. It is a couple K more than the KLS Kawi but does way better on distance trips though the Kawi does rip up the dirt way better.
I will probably have to get a few aftermarket pieces to bring the Suzi V-Strom to standards. A nice engine under protector for one so the engine does not have to deal with rocks bouncing off of it Plus it uses the same power plant as the SV650 so there is power to spare--- IE top end at 10500RPM Redline is a little south of 130MPH And from reviews it is comfortable at those speeds

Well, the proof of the pudding is in the tasting.

You really cannot tell until you take it for a long and gruelling test drive over every type of road and surface you want to ride it on.

make sure you do as many miles as they will allow you to on it.

Well they do not have a test drive unit for the V-Strom 650. They had two built but dry, an ABS and a non-ABS. I am thinking about ABS but I would first like to know how it performs in dirt. Sometimes you want to break traction in the dirt
I am decided on the V-Strom 650. It was run against 4 other bikes out in Europe and beat out Ducati AND BMW to earn the Alpsmaster label. I think I will stick with the stock Trailwings until they go slick and than get me some Tourances Maybe.
In solid hard off roading you might have some trouble with the little V but it sure as hell can blow anything else off the road.
No other adventure 650/ except the new BMW 650/800 whatever those crazy germans are thinking/ can even keep up with it on light/medium off road or street.
mmmmm....

i want to be able to speed past big trucks. Better to slice through that crap

Psh. They should get a test drive unit.

Sounds like one hell of a bike

I hope you love it when you jump on board!

Shame the lights and screen assembly are as ugly as sin.
