This is a simple poll to the veterans occupying the DF community. Certain individuals (It should be noted that these people themselves are not veterans) have expressed a dissatisfaction with our general slandering of new arrivals. Apparantly they think that even though we've taken every possible measure to keep the "Hi I'm new" threads out of here, people still have a right to post them. Something about "free speech" or whatever... Personally I wouldn't walk up to any group of people I don't know and go "Hi, I'm new," and expect them to welcome me as being just as familiar as the next person. But my digression could potentially taint the votes so, lets get right to it. Sixteen days will be allowed for voting.

i'd say lay off until they prove that they need to be flamed... i think as a whole we've all become a little too quick on the draw to start ripping a n00b a new asshole. yes there are a majority of n00b's that don't think and make a stupid first or second posts, but lets try to give them a little room before we rip them into shreds.

I agree; this newbie-bashing is getting way out of control, and a few nameless veterans are beginning to get on my nerves. Leave them alone until they give you a GOOD reason to hate them. If a noob who is not very computer-savvy / smart asks a question about how to do stuff here, or mistakenly says "hello" in a new thread, lay off; it's not the end of the world, and they shouldn't be chased off. This place IS, after all, about meeting new people.... well, I think.

Wow seem's were split as of this reply. And veterans are recieving this in a way I found quite unexpected. Interesting...

yeah, i think you know my opinion on this DarkStorm. and i am a veteran, more so than you so don' be slappin that shtuff on meh.

The bashing should quit. Someone said it has gotten out of hand and I agree. Along with just being plain ridiculous it also doesn't make the attackers look particularly intelligent, there is hardly ever(that I have taken notice of)a good reason behind the mockery/put down, its just whoever has recently registered and/or has a small ammount of posts.

Ok... ok, I will admit, no one ever really bashed me... at least, if they did, I don't remember it. Maybe I was just too slutty and crazy to be hazed.

I do think the key to not getting torn up is to just start joining in topics and conversations and stuff. No need to draw attention to the fact that you're new *shrug*. We can tell by your join date / # of posts / etc.

I agree with ArSiNiK. But you know what? If they do post a "Hi I'm new" thread, I'm going to rip them up. It's common courtesy not to eat bandwidth, right? Well, run a search on the word HI. See how many matches you come up with. I think we should just have one big welcome thread.

It really has nothing to do with the subject, I shouldn't have even made reference to it.

But in all reality, yeah i like you. I don't think of you as a n00b. What's the line between n00b and veteran? For me it's not the number of posts, or time registered. For me it's when I've learned enough about you to have an idea of just who you are.

Once you've become a person in my mind, I respect you. It's hard to destroy that respect. I respect you here, now, even though you disagree with me. Same goes for my discussion with Mossy in the other thread. But my initial reaction to an entity which is, thus far, without any identity, isn't one of welcome. I'm very antisocial and I don't want company. I especially don't want someone thinking they're my friend from the get-go. You, rostig, as well as Mossy have earned my respect. And you'd have found that out soon enough without me telling you in the weeks to come as we interacted more.
