As many of you know, New York no longer allows smoking anywhere that has a roof. No bars, No resturants, No nothing. I think for the most it's a good thing, but not smoking in bars is a bit overboard. I know a lot of the bars here are losing business because people are drinking at home or at parties becuase it's too annoying to have to go outside everytime they want to smoke. Which, is kinda good, becuase I am sure that will lead to less DWI's and whatnot. However, the buisness's are suffering in a bad way becuase of this. I know a lot of other states (Like parts of Virgina) where you can smoke in a freaking Burger King. Anyway, I just was wondering what you guys thought of this and what other states laws on this are.

I don't smoke and I'm against it (more precisely, I'm against passive-smoking). However, smoking in certain places (especially bars) shouldn't be banned if only there's a choice between rooms for smokers and nonsmokers.

That's what I mean. I mean, I have a daughter and I do not allow smoking around her, therefore I can say that I agree that most places shouldn't let smoking indoors. But, a freaking bar? If there's 2 or 3 different areas? Ya know.... Espically those big huge city bars where there's more than enough space to stay away from cigs and there's no where that everyone could go outside except the sidewalk.

eh, i'm a smoker and it doesn't really bother me. I hate smoking inside buildings anyway because .. lack of fresh air? lol thats funny.

In my country (Poland) this situation is solved in a quite clever way:
Smoking is forbidden in public places, companies (offices) and so on...
In bars you can smoke if... there are ashtrays (well, it's rather a custom, than a law -- but it's practical, isn't it?)

Im an ex smoker so I personally dont mind, its bad for business tho. Getting smokers to smoke in the clean crisp air of new york should cure the problem for sure.

As a measure im not really against it tho, in belgium there are still hospitals that allow smoking indoors. They could use a wake up call there.

Do you know in Amsterdam they allow you to smoke pot in bars, but to smoke cigs you have to go into a special air puraited room?

i could see maybe in sportsbars or bar and grill settings, but anything else seems sort of retarded.

i was in North Carolina a month or so ago... and they were smoking resturaunts liie MC D's, they were smoking in public buildings too like the Colesium in Greensboro.. it was wierd...

Here in Rhode Island they don't allow you to smoke anywhere but your house and outside.

I live in the wonderful hick assed state of Tennessee...You can smoke EVERYWHERE. And I mean, quite litterally, everywhere. When my sister got married and took all of her bridesmaids to get their nails done the day before the cerimony...they let us smoke in the nail shop. Right in the mall. Hell, the chick that did my sisters' nails was smoking almost the entire time! It flipped me out. I grew up in Indiana, you can barely smoke in the god damned smoking section at a resturant up there without someone giving you a dirty look or saying something to you...and the people who give you shit are SITTING IN THE GOD DAMNED SMOKING SECTION!!! *erm* Sorry, I'm a smoker. Hence the aggravation.
But yes, tennessee is like a smokers haven. It figures.
