so my sister calls me up and says my mom called her house earlier crying about how my brother was treating her like shit. a little background info is probably needed. my brother lives up in washington, is on his second marriage and just had his 3rd kid. she flew up to see him and the new baby and was supposed to be there until tuesday. when she called my sisters house she got my nephew and said that he was yelling at her and telling her she was a horrible grandmother.

so i call up my brothers cell and he's taking my mom to the airport right when i'm talking to him. i tell him to hand the phone over and i start talking to my mom. she's crying hysterically, so i tell her to fly into l.a. and i'll pick her up. once i'm done with her i told her to hand the phone back. when my brother gets the phone i ask him 'what the fuck is going on?' and he says 'i dunno, mom is just upset.' my mom doesn't cry just because she feels like it. you have to really fuck with her to make her cry.

so i told him 'dude, if i talk to mom and you fucked up then we've got more than words.' he says 'don't fucking threaten me' and i laughed. i said 'this isn't some fucking bimbo that showed up on your doorstep, this is our mother. you don't treat her like a fucking cunt. do you understand me?' again he says 'don't you fucking threaten me, motherfucker.' my reply was 'i don't care who you are, who you're married to or what the fuck you think, this is our mother, you treat her like she is or i'll fucking kick your ass.'

he hung up the phone.

so i go pick my mom up from the airport tonight and the minute she see's me she starts bawling. she said every time she opened her mouth, my brother's new wife would snap at her. if she tried to do something then the wife would shew her out. apparently the second oldest was sick and of course she wasn't gonna take a newborn out, but when she asked to take the oldest to the mall my brother took her into the garage and screamed at her. he said she was being biased to the kids and not treating them equally.

this is a pretty big first family fight. my family is known for its fights. my dad is slowly forcing me out of the house and i am currently looking for a new home.

that sucks. my family has had problems in the past, but nothing like this. i mean, what kind of idiot treats his mother like this? and i know why he's doing it too. he's married to (another) complete bitch that won't give him his nuts back and is totally controlling. he always gets chicks like that. i fucking hate them.

Have you ever had to deal with a mother in law arsi? They often think they are completely innocent while being complete bitches. I had to go through it with my ex's mother, she had this whole passive aggression thing going on and would forget that I was meant to be going to a football match or something with them and "forget" to get me a ticket - even after I had given her the money to get tickets my ex and I days earlier, not to mention she forgot that she had my money and wouldn't pay me back. She would be a bitch about dirty dishes, expecting them to be cleaned up immediately(and I mean an empty glass couldn't touch the table after I had finished drinking from it, I was expected to get up and wash it straight away, otherwise she would just sit there and stare at me until I did it) while my ex's brother would leave shit everywhere and wouldn't lift a finger. She could never let me have the last word in anything, often did things to spite me(bought a bracelet for my ex that I had circled in a magazine and was going to buy her for our anniversary, suddenly mother in law springs a surprise present on her) If my ex ever wanted to borrow my car, her mother would say shit like her car was much safer and should be used - she drives a tiny hatch back, and I drive a Nissan Skyline, sure it's got a turbo but my ex had driven so many times she could handle it. Her father was a good bloke and never gave me any problems in the four years I was with my ex, but her mother was a bitch queen. People think Everybody Loves Raymond is just a TV show, but its' closer to reality than you think.

I know the temptation is great to go right now and give him a ten-knuckle attitude adjustment, but if you really want to get through to him, then just shut him out. I mean still be there to protect your mom, but otherwise don't associate with him. If you pound him he's just gonna get more resentful, but if you stop treating him like a brother and treat him like a stranger, that'll actually sink in more than a beating.

i totally understand the in-law deal, but i'm positive this isn't one of those.

here's a few examples of what happened:

it's raining outside. one of the kids (who is sick and all congested) is about to run outside. my mom says 'hey, go put some socks and shoes on first' the wife grabs the kids, looks at him and says 'you don't have to do what your grandma just said.'

my mom and the oldest are setting the table for dinner. my mom asks 'should i put knives out for the big people in case they want some butter?' the wife snaps 'no, there's already one with the butter!' then after a long pause she goes and gets herself a knife.

i already talked about when she wanted to take the oldest to the mall and my brother snapped.

my brothers wife corners my mom and says 'i know you think you're the queen bee of this family, but that shit doesn't happen in my house.'

not really. my brother moved for a reason. there's something that you have to understand about my brother. he's a con artist, a user and a freeloader. he moved because he used up all his resources and he needed a new place to tax. as it is i only talk to him like twice a year, my mom calls him a lot more often. he wont call because he's a cheap skate and doesn't want to spend the money.

check this out. when my mom got up there she said she hadn't eaten lunch and she was hungry. the motherfucker takes her to costco and walks around to get free samples and calls that lunch.

Hey your brother sounds almost as good as my sister... I didn't acknowledge her for 5 yrs.... to the point where I had forgotten I even had a sister and she surprised the fuck outta both my roommate and myself when she got my number off my mom and dad and phoned me up outta the blue.

You're mother may be asking/doing things innocently, but it might be threatening to the other woman. When your mom asks questions like with the butter, it might be misconstrued as a passive criticism of the other womans ability, like yor mom is pointing out her mistakes.

Though there is the possibility that the other woman is just a bitch and needs a few rounds of smack-down fu.

The only people I know who do that are the homeless.
