Anne Arundel County police say they have discovered the cause of a Friday night shooting in Edgewater: an Xbox game system.

Angry that his roommates were being too loud at 2 a.m., Robert Preston Kersey, 34, of the 1700 block of Fairhill Drive stormed into the living room and fired a single gunshot into the game system, disabling it, police said. The 9mm gunshot did not penetrate the system and did not injure anyone at the scene, police said.

Kersey has been charged with two counts of reckless endangerment and one count of destruction of property, police said.

it's funny that they'd mention the bullet didn't penetrate the XBrick. Bill Gates is making the ultimate weapon right under our noses!

I find it hard to believe that it didn't penetrate...although it is a 9mm and they're not exactly powerful, but that should be enough to go through plastic and a couple thin pieces of metal.

It could be one of those pop guns that shoot the little "The end" sign, he just put it upto the on button and it turned it off.

When you shoot ppl in games most of the time they just lie down and die despit apparently no damage, the same rules may apply to consoles.

I find kicking my pooter gets it working better though so maybe shooting it makes it operate faster than the eye can see.

Ken Boyovich owns the house and is a single father with five children. He said he has lost just about everything.

Kenny Boyovich, 14, said the Nintendo game was in the corner of his bedroom when he went to sleep. He said it was plugged in but turned off.

"When I woke up there was a flame about as tall as I am," said Kenny. "It was underneath the desk coming up towards the television. At first I was in shock and it wasn't until I heard my little sister's voice that it registered that it was on fire."

"If I had know that was going to happen I wouldn't have had one, it wouldn't have been in my house because I almost lost my son," said Ken.

Fire investigators say there were smoke alarms in the house and they did go off. That may have saved the family's lives.

The family is now staying with neighbors and wearing borrow clothes because so much of what they owned is gone.

The blaze caused an estimated $100,00 in damage.

KOMO 4 News tried to reach Nintendo Friday for their response, but because of the holiday weekend we weren't able to reach anyone.
