And being productive is never a bad thing. For example, you're working hard at getting your post count up so you are being productive.

I guess thats true. Plus I am saving up money to go back to college, so I can get a a job that contributes and is productive toward society. Guess I'm a hypocrite... or lame.
Though I am highly tempted to use the money to travel.

I couldn't afford college, and was living in a small town with little chance of getting out.

So I enlisted. I have traveled the world on the Government's dime and got money for college. Now I work for the Government and get paid to travel the state and be home every night.

I thought about doing that. Joining the Navy, just so I could travel expense-free. I am not the military type however.

Words cant express how much I want to travel the world. I will defiantly do it, unless I die before I get a chance to. I'm very passionate about traveling. I find the further away I get from my residence, the happier I am.

Then maybe you should consider it.

It would be only a few years, and you're enough that won't hurt you. Plus you can get trained on cutting edge equipement and be paid to see the world.

I have set foot on every continent but Antartica and got to do things most people only dream of doing.

I would like to travel and take time to see and do things on my own time. Would it be like this? whats it like traveling with the military?

For me it was a bit different. I was an IDMT with the Air Force. Basically a paramedic that was deployed as primary medical support to different locations. I was sent on training missions and temp duty assignments with army personnel.

In the navy, you would get sent shipboard. Some of them are like floating cities with college classes provided while onboard.

When you go TDY (Temporary Duty) you get told to pack your A, B or C bag, and go get in line. Several times, I didn't know where I was going till I got off the plane.

That does sound tempting... though the one thought on my mind is Iraq. Not that I am a pussy, I just dont want to fight a war that I am against.

That sounds fun. Going to unknown places and it being a suprize. I'm the type of person that would love to just be dropped in Africa with nothing but a backpack with the essentials, and just walk, and roam and explore. Of course I would be hoping I wouldnt get attacked by a lion or end up in a turkish prison. But traveling aimlessly is a lot of fun for me.

Granted. But there is no guarantee you would be deployed to Iraq.

Besides, it isn't so bad. I was there for the first Gulf war. It was better there then when I went to Turkey or Central America.

Korea was fun, as was Australia. Japan was too busy for me and too many snake in Guam but the scuba diving/snorkelling was top notch

When I went to Egypt, I was told I was going to Indiana. So I had cold weather cloths packed. But when I got off the plane, I had to make shorts.

Asia is like my wet dream. I have always been fascinated with their culture and philosophies. I even bought rosetta stone to learn the language, that and spanish. Africa is also a place that highly intrigues me. Though it will take a looong time for me to become.. decent at speaking the languages. So that gives me enough time to save up a good amount of $$$.

Though the Navy is starting to sound like a good idea.

I've had a similiar conversation on this site with Rebeccah. She joined up and I don't think she's regretted it much. But she isn't online as much as she used to be.

Not everyone gets to travel as I did. But Navy travels more then Air Force. If nothing else, go talk with a recruiter and see what they have to offer. There is no committment if you just walk in and ask to speak with someone. That's how I started.

Whats strange is, I walked past a recruiting center today. Now we are talking about it... maybe its gods way of telling me "do it!"

Who knows, they may have something you're interested in and be offering a nice hireing bonus if you sign up.

My nephew got $4000 in bonus for signing up for 4 years to be a mechanic on F18's. Almost half of that time will be spent on training.
