I've heard this quote before, my room mate last year called it to my attention (she was both wiccan and anti bush, a lot of the anti bush sentiment rubbed off on me, not that i mind a bit).

If this thread belongs anywhere it would probably be current events, not religion (i'd see this as more a political discussion) but i think its fine where it is.

and wiccanism is a religion, the people who seriously practice it have seriously balanced and healthy lives, not those stupid kids who dress in all black and call themselves devil worshipers. they're something completely different.

So, if people of the Wiccan call themselves a religion... are they are religion? And, if they are a religion, shouldn't they be considered as such and protected by the U.S. government, whose constitution allows freedom of religion?
It's a mute point, considering it was a qoute from a puppet president (but aren't they all).
'Course, this brings into consideration...suppose I created a religion based on me. Should not my newly-based religion gain creedence in the U.S., since I believe in it? What laws exist to extradite it?

I believe that they have to be an organised religion to be recognised, with churches, Gaia isn't specific enough as a place of worship....and they need slush funds.
