The lurkers know about member only area's. They just don't feel like joining. After all, every thread with "Why don't lurkers join?" ends up talking about non-lurker area's.

how about you gain members on merit? I can promise your forum would have a lot more prolific members if it werent so tightly censored, Ive tried to bring a few people here, who were more generous than I and actually read the rules and while they are professors, regular teachers and other...and they would have offered a lot, the rules were ridiculous and petty to them and as fans of freedom of speech and self regulation they declined membership. Im here for morbid amusement and a few characters I find interesting...really guys, this forum could be great...embrace darwinism and let us self regulate banning or deleting only illegal content, ad spammers and like content. circle jerks arent as fun as anarchy...and certainly less stimulating and educational.. I promise.

It is the same as a lot of forums, but not all.

The subjects are awesome, the theme is awesome, you have a tiny minority of awesome members but the cowardice of the rules and those (well, atleast two of them) youve (this forum) chosen to enforce them sucks dog balls.

Ill do what I want till it pleases me no longer or until I no longer have the option to do them via banned, losing arms, joining a cult etc etc. Im good like that.

Things are really not so tightly censored. I can name at least a couple hundrd other Forums who Ban quicker than the eye can follow and I can name thousands with rulesets similar to ours.
Fans of freedom of speech and self regulation who are professors should know better being well educated that niether one really exist.

well its kinda unfortunate you see things this way. Im not a fatalist though, neither are they. Being able to call a dumb ass a dumb ass is something they cherish though. I never said you should allow anything, I specifically mentioned legal issues and ad spam etc. But separate from all and any extreme examples often used in emotional arguments following your line, lets just talk about opinion and expression...which is what this forum is about right? not being confronted for what you say isnt what freedom of speech is as far as Im concerned, and being confronted is how we validate our stances and made to consider other's. Freedom of speech is about being able to express your opinion unrestricted, not about being able to lie, make shit up ie screaming fire in a theatre when there is none. opinions arent illegal where Im from, some might be offensive...but thats when the fun starts.

Should not be any more of those PM problems from here on out. The lines of communication should always be open. I am sure we will find a few more flaws with the Automatic System before we are done. They will be fixxed as found.

i am not a fatalist. I am a strict realist with a foot dragging in the dreamer state of mind. opinions are all well and good if expressed in a civilized manner. But we like to have good well thought out debates that are not taken off-topic by trolling or flaming which usually stems from someone who just cannot express thier opinion in a civilized manner. There are a couple of ways to express a negative opinion, in a rude and very uncouth manner, or in a very rational way which promotes healthy debate. I would rather that we dispense with the uncouth mannerisms an dkeep the rational, civilized ones
All rational, civilized opinions and expressions are allowed here even ones which are not very popular(look to some of Billy's posts for those) but we frown upon just plain rude behaviour because it does not promote any sort of a healthy debate platform.
