| Gay/straight alliances in public high schools -
10-06-02
I have an online petition going for trying to start a gay/straight alliance in my local high school. The link to the petition can be found in my signature...please, take a minute to check it out. It means a lot to me...I would greatly appreciate it.
If you have any feedback or comments, please, please post! I want to know what people think!

Good cause. We have a Pride Alliance at my school, and most
of my friends are in it. Good luck! "So smear the paint on your face, proclaim your warrior's song, feel the rage build inside you, the energy and passion..." To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

We had that at our high school. The guy in charge of it all was the class president the year before us ..he was flaming gay ..and then he went off to college and back for spring break, shot himself in the head in his car in the garage of his parents house. All because people in college didn't except him.

The greatest thing a couple of years ago at school; the people at www.godhatesfags.org or whatever were scheduled to protest at a football game (because one of our buildings was named after someone who in some way supported a gay pride parade or some such; note that the building was named over 10 years ago, and they were protesting to get the name changed, and they were from states away). I still remember the meeting my RC had with my dorm's floor, saying these guys pretty much make their money suing people that attack them when protesting.
Anyway, the student body, gay and straight alike, grouped together to protest the protestors. They never showed. Bismarck once said "Fools say they like to learn from their experiences, but I prefer to learn from the experience of others."
"Move that one of your pieces, which is in the worst plight, unless you can satisfy yourself that you can derive immediate advantage by an attack." -Adolph Anderssen To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. why bring such nonsense into highschool when it really doesnt belong in the 1st place? Why not start a straight alliance since that would cater to the majority of the students? all im saying is that i dont think that bulshit belongs in american highschools, people dont take it serious enough. Schools for getting your education not starting half baked homosexual support groups.

furthermore, its nonsense. many of my friends in highschool wanted to make a medditeraneans club or a Europeans club since they had an asians club, a spanish club and an african club.. and yet we were denied because a europeans club would be racist O_o

I've never heard of this before, what does this alliance do for people? Will it have a positive impact or is it a support group of sorts?
Billy's right about reverse racism. Since White people have been the opressors up until now, they tend to be accused of racism more than minority groups. Have you not learned from the corpses of your bretheren?

Ugh... reverse discrimination is the devil. I got in big trouble when I petitioned for a Heterosexual Caucasian Male Alliance at my school a couple years back

Akasha's idea isn't bad at all; some may even benefit. I personally think it's a tad unnecessary, but it can't hurt. I have no problem with allliances of any sort, just so long as they accept the fact that I don't necessarily care. When people push stuff in my face, I get angry.

As I said on the petition I have absolutely nothing against it so I signed it . I wish you the very best of luck. I don't see why people make such a big deal about your sexuality as its not like it really makes a difference . LUCAS:Joe, I think its gonna be ok
JOE:What makes you think that?
LUCAS:Who knows where thoughts come from? They just appear.

what role does sexuality play in highschool? it shouldnt play any, why shoould the majority of straight student shave this forced in thier faces via a "gay straight" alliance? Likewise how owuld homosexuals feel if there was an alliance dedicated to being hetero? Im almost positive that you would see all sorts of BS hippocritical protesting. Kind of like how on my old college campus they had gay pride day and drew big ass around the manhole covers and it was a protected form of expression even though it was disgusting and highley offensive to many of us..and yet when the Christian club made simple leaflets with "leviticus 18:22" or whatever the hell; the number is all the gay students went up in arms protested the dean and got the 3 or 4 original christian students in some trouble, one i bleieve got expelled. total fucking Homo agenda BS. Where the fuck does it stop? why should 1 or 2 % of the populations life style have so much play? theres more Sado/masochists then there are homosexuals why not have a sado/masochist alliance? and as i said when the fuck does it stop? Highschool today, middle school tommorrow and elementary school the enxt day. Homo agenda BS. If you subject yourself to a lifestyle you should be protected for it, you assume the risks yourself. its not the same deal as Race, or Gender.

Sexuality plays a huge role in high school, actually. How often do you hear someone refer to something as "gay" or call someone a "fag"? All to often, actually. Why not have an alliance to promote unity in the school, regardless of sexual orientation. And notice that she called it a GAY/STRAIGHT alliances. Not purely catering to homosexuals, but not solely catering to the beliefs of heterosexuals. I think it's an excellent idea. High school can be vicious.
Although, I agree that certain minority groups can get away with too much simply because they ARE a minority. Whether that means a race minority, a sexual minority, or whatever. There IS a line. But that line is hazy, so give the group a chance before condemning them. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Ahhh...*smiles* Wonderful feedback...thanks to all that signed.
To address a couple of questions in the thread:
The purpose of a gay/straight alliance is to promote awareness mainly. To let people know that gays are not sick, etc etc and that by hanging out with gay people will turn you gay. You'd be surprised how many people think in this manner. Another main reason is that this is to be used as a support group. I had a hard time coming out myself...with family, particular friends, and school administration. I would hate to see someone struggle like I did and go through all that. Because if you don't have support...it can lead to suicide. And in a way, it's to support school unity. To show everyone that we're all human...
I know I've been called a "dyke" and several of my gay guy friends have been called "fags", which annoys the hell out of me. There is a limit to freedom of speech; speak your mind if you please, but don't use derragatory terms to stereotype people.
Sexuality is a HUGE part of your high school life, andven the currciculum. I well remember the impact it had on my life and how even my academic life changed as a result. High school is the time in which most people explore their sexuality...and if you can't have someone there to at least talk to you, how are you ever going to grow to your full potential?
But I'm not here to preach. I have several very religious friends who neither condone or condemn me. They accept me as I am and love me all the same. They won't join the alliance, but it doesn't mean they don't care. It just goes against their belief
