I have noticed a rather strange trend amongst the members of DF.

It seems that people come to our esteemed forum, have a look around and then join up with the idea of beginning a specific thread or introducing a specifc idea into the forum.

Unfortunately, what then happens is the jaded and bitter members of DF read some thread by a n00b with 1post and promptly shit all over them, thus demoralising them and causing them to run away with their tail between their legs.

What we are then left with is a database of (I think) close to 80,000 members, the majority of whom have less than 10posts.

All you have to do is look at those featured on the birthday list and see how many posts each one has to realise my point.

Is there anyway the membership list can be culled somewhat? Or perhaps n00bz could actually be encouraged (*gasp*) to hang around and post?

I like new users,I welcomed gopod.Hope he didint take it as sarcastic,or flaming. I know what that shit is like.Wayyy back when i first joined,I got shit on by the old members (who are now all gone,or were amongst the ones that just recently left or got banned).So I started a thread called "all newbies here" inthe friendship forum.It was closed down because there were too many replies or back then there was a reply limit or something.Or maybe it was a mod? maybe it was me. I was mod for a short while back then.But anyway,the thread got like a thousand replies or more in the end.And thats where alot of new people were encouraged,and meshed in quite well.

I think all the disenhearted unused accounts should be deleted.

I think you have been around DF long enough to realize that it always used to be like this.

And I think that n00bs can simply use the freaken' thread porvided or we could have an intro board.

No kidding. I was the proud recipient of one of Pyrric Dicktory's scathing, half-drunk, almost coherent attacks the first time I posted. I'm still here.

If you'll notice, the vast majority of people signed up to DF don't even have a single post to their names. They either sign up and lurk, or they sign up and then forget the place even existed. There are some people on here that post maybe once a month, or have posted a few times and then just leave, and not because they've been flamed. Why? I don't know. Perhaps they change their minds. Perhaps they only have attention-spans of a few minutes. Whatever the reason, it has always been this way.

Any time the mods agree with a post like this and attempt to curb the behavior, the regulars get surly. Some bitch, some flame the mods, some get pissy and write big melodramatic posts about it...and others attempt to get the board shut down because if 'their' board can't be the way they like it then why should anyone else be able to enjoy it?

Then again, some people simply consider it a rite of initiation.

I'm only here sparatically (okay, I can't spell), but that's only because a lot of times I come here to get an opposing view on what's going on in my life. It seems that everyone here that posts often has one. I'll come in, reply to a few threads, maybe start one of my own and see what people say, then the thread will get buried or I'll get busy again and I'll stop posting for a couple of weeks or maybe even a couple of months.

It's evolution, the strong will survive.

Thus we are left with posters who enjoy being verbally abused by a bunch of no mark goths

I agree with Shadowborn here.....I was flamed as well (although I don't consider it "flamed" really.......more like "singed") and I'm here; I don't post as often as I should because everything worth talking about slowed to a syrupy consistancy, while other topics I can't even care a fart (much less) a shit about.

I also agree about deletion....it'll free up names, and user space, for others that will (a) stay for more than 15 minutes and (b) honestly contribute new and fresh ideas into this black hole........(Gods I'm SO Goth. lol)
