I am announcing a new and improved poetry contest for all Darkforum. Here's the lowdown:

Guidelines: Any registered memeber of Darkfoum is welcome to enter. Submit your poem to me (>FuckDoll<) via private message before the deadline. Submissions received after the deadline will not be admissible. PM with subject line: poetry contest submission. Enclose the poem in the body PM, the poem must be titled. I WILL NOT correct any punctuation or grammatical errors. Send it to me the way you want it posted. (Idea: Code tags can be a handy tool when manipulating the structure and general layout of your poem (or not).) Poem must be YOUR original work, only one submission allowed per poet per contest.

Voting: I will post the poems to a single thread in the smoke room, without usernames for voting. Voting is open to all Df members. Voters choose a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place poem and post it in that thread.

Prize: The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be announced at the end of the contest. The 1st place winner will receive a three month paid subscription to Darkforum!

Deadlines:
March 1, 2004 - poetry contest opens, send your poems to me via pm.
March 14, 2004 - deadline for submitting poems. Poems received after this date will not be entered.
March 15, 2004 - Voting opens, everyone can vote. Post your choices for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the voting thread.
March 29, 2004 - Winners will be announced.

a good idea Fuckdoll, but having everyone vote for it will make this into a popularity contest and nothing more...

also, all poems will be posted in the order they are received.

but dont you think having everyone vote on them is a bit problematic? i mean there should be a panel of judges not everyone.. i mean i can easily tell like all my pals which one i wrote and to vote for it etc etc and ill vote for thiers ya know?

you sure could. The whole panel of judges thing is a good idea, but hasn't worked in the past. There were complaints about how the judges were qualified. There were complaints the judges judged too harshly. (which was laughable) There were suspicions that the person in charge at the time who had some sort of magical tally system for the votes would just choose which one's he liked/were his friends. The open voting works the best (from what I've seen, and I've reviewed a ton of contests in preparation). Certainly you can tell people which one is yours and they can do that, and other people can do that as well. It the end it seems logical the people choosing to do that would cancel themselves out.

im sure you could set up a judge panel and let people know that who they pick is who they pick and thats final... letting people judge freely like that will just render who has the most friends as the winner and not the best poem.. so i dont think we should be surprised if a SUPER shitty poem won in that context, but hey its your contest im not going to tell you how to run it.

we'll see how it goes... this contest is going to happen quarterly. So, with 4 happening a year we have time to make changes before the next one. If it seems that a panel of judges will be needed for the NEXT contest a call will be put out and qualifications will be gathered.

I have faith though.
