Here's the deal. This morning my daughter had a red spot on her leg about the size of a penny. It has a very thin scab may be from scratching or scrape. I haven't seen her scratch it like it itches so I guessed that it was a scrape and cleaned it with soap water, neosporin, bandaid. When I got home from school tonight it's real swollen like half of a golfball, warm and really red. I don't want to freak and go to the emergency room for a 'squito bite or a swollen scrape or even possibly a spider bite.
What do you suggest?

Do you have brown recluse (fiddleback) spiders where you live? My daughter got bit by one a couple years back...it got pretty bad. Does it look infected, or just swollen?
And, you should never feel silly for going to the doctor, if you are concerned. "...Lord, bring on the night. Wrap it all around me. Let it hold me tight. Baking soda dilluted with water. Make a paste and put it on the "bite".

It sounds like it could possibly be a ringworm, do you have pets? And it may be itchy and irritating her skin thus the sratching would make it worse. But I wouldn't leave it, keep a close eye on it and it if gets worse definately take her to the doc. But if you could get your hands on some Lavender pure essential oil that would be amazing. Lavender can be used on raw skin, but not too much as she's a kid still. One or two drops would do it, but do make sure you get 100% pure essential oil and not just perfumed oil. If the skin is way too sensitive then place a couple of drops in any unscented cream and then apply it to the area. Lavender is great for any skin problems such as bites or burns.

True true it does sound like it could be a bite, that's why it's crucial not to let too much time go past....

And, you should never feel silly for going to the doctor, if you are concerned. | It looks a little infected. I tried witchhazel but the swelling hasn't really gone down that much... a little though. I don't have baking soda but...I do have lavender oil Go figure. I tried that diluted just a minute ago. If the swelling doesn't go down by this afternoon I'll probably just cave in and go to the doctor. Thanks for the warning and wonderful ideas guys. ~SinisterWhore StarFuck "...IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS..." It sounds like an insect bite that has become infected through the broken skin, though I am a bit concerned about the swelling and local rise in temperature. I'll check on a couple things and get back in a bit. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Star - take her to the hospital. If it IS a spider bite, especially a brown recluse - it's real dangerous - and they are all over the US.
It looks like it has a little violin painted on it's back - so if you see them, kill them fast. I know a guy that was very ill for weeks over it. Forgiveness? That's between you and your God. I beleive that waterbearer is right, it does sound a poisionous spider bit here, though without knowing for sure what kind of spider it actually was, that makes things a bit difficult. Standard treatment is usually an antibiotic shot and treatment with Benydryl, followed up with a week's cycle of antibiotics and Benydryl to reduce the swelling. It's dried up now and looks much better but still a little red and warm plus...yall are freaking me out so...I'm going to the doctor. Later. ~SinisterWhore StarFuck "...IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS..." They gave her a shot and Benydryl...damn Soul...you should be...
Dr. Soulburner
Her doctor said that it dosn't look real serious (spider but not Mr. fiddleback)
but to avoid a scar and to fight infection as well as onset of a fever they said it would be best.
She ate a bowl of spegetios and had some peaches and milk and is sleeping real good now. Poor sweety...it didn't ictch but I think it was hurting her...especially when I freaked out and squeezed it...she had little tears in her eyes..."no mommy owie..."I feel so bad now...I have tears in my eyes. (sigh)
Thanks a bunch guys...I knew I loved yall for some wierd reason. ~SinisterWhore StarFuck "...IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS..."
