I'm trying to catch up on my news reading this morning and found another screwball lawsuit in the works.

"CSPI plans to sue the beverage sellers, asking for disgorgement of profits from flavored malt beverages, unless they agree to take them off the market. Their theory? By making flavored alcoholic beverages that taste good, they are effectively marketing to children. (Because, after all, adults don't like beverages that taste good.) CSPI also claims that it violates FDA rules to sell alcoholic beverages that contain caffeine, which would be a surprise to every restaurant that offers Irish coffee. "

In fact, we have not been able to find any research that tests the safety of this witches’ brew of stimulants and depressants.

We are seeing new research on the very real risks behind alcospeed that present a false sense of alertness, as these drinks sure do.

Does this mean I can sue all the microbreweries in my town for the same thing? After all, beer isn't supposed to be nutty or fruity, or taste good, so that must mean they're marketing to children, right?

Frivolous? No, I don't think so. To me, a frivolous lawsuit is when a guy is allowed to sue a homeowner for medical coverage of the injuries he sustained while breaking in to rob the place.

Is it well-intentioned? Maybe, but it's also stupid. We have laws in place against the selling of alcohol to those under the age of 21 in the U.S. To my knowledge, Anheiser-Busch isn' t violating those laws. Their products aren't marketed during children's programming; they don't have "Hannah Montana" or "Spiderman" on the labels. Bars and store still card.

Kids will drink anything. I don't see anyone suing the Florida Orange Growers Association because their product is being used to make vodka taste better...or Red Bull because their product has been incorporated into mixed drinks.

But then again, why bother trying to educate your children when you can just slap a big, fat lawsuit on someone?

I'm sure someone said something along the lines of -

'It's the role of a parent to find someone to blame for your child's actions.'

Yeah I think that was first said after the columbine incident, only it was more like "Let's not blame ourselves for poor parenting, lets blame the video games as a bad influence" You know I work at a place that sells that energy beer shit, we are now up to 3 kinds: Tilt and two kinds of Sparks. I think I have sold maybe 5 cans of it the entire time I've worked there. Most people prefer the actual energy drinks. By the way if they are gonna sue the beer makers for adding stimulants to their beverages under the premise that they are not approved food additives, then they need to sue all the companies that make energy suppliments and drinks as well, for the same reason.

It's always something: music; video games; movies; books; everything but the people who are supposed to be raising their kids. You'd think that children are like computer accessories: just plug and play; once you've popped them out they'll sort it all out for themselves...

Oh oh oh oh, bring this a little more back to being on topic(shock!) what about the malt flavored beverages made by smirnoff, and bacardi? Shouldn't those be included in this lawsuit as well, since they are also concidered tasty?

Well, i guess now every single cocktail selling bar will have to be shut down, every pub selling lager tops, shandies, anywhere that mixes any kind of liquor with water, soda or lemonade, anywhere that sells pimms (that has to be drunk with fruit and some cucumber thrown in) or absinthe, and anywhere that sells absolutely any kind of alcoholic beverage that tastes good. oh and of course, noone will be allowed to have ice in their drinks any more. especially ciders made to be drunk over ice, which taste bad without it.
