An odd thing I've noticed in my travels is that the farther east you are in America, the more alcohol is regulated. I don't know why.

WE have alcohol laws going back to the 1600s in my state. You cannot buy alcohol after 8PM or on Sunday.

The Washington state liquor laws are fairly strict for a west coast state. All liquor stores are state-owned and operated, and are only open until 7pm. If a business wants a liquor license they have to make a certain portion of their profits from the sale of food (read: only restaurants get bars). Otherwise, you can only run a 'tavern' (read: only serve beer, wine, and crappy-ass pansy malt drinks).

I miss Hawaii, where you could pick up a bottle of Jack Daniels while you did your grocery shopping...
