View Full Version : So what do you want?

This is basically asking if you had a choice, what would the truth to the Universe be? Which, if any, religion would be correct? Notice this has nothing to do with the likelihood of it being correct or your belief of what is correct, it's what you would most hope was correct. You can say were were all created by silver rabbit people who grew tired of playing Clue if you wanted.

If I could pick any option, I'd probably go for more or less a Christian one (though more inspired by Jesus Christ Superstar than by the Bible per se). Probably just because that's how I was raised, but ideally I'd have everything happen for a reason, with one caring, merciful, compassionate God guiding it all, and the knowledge that existence never really ends, and that when you die you'll be with those you love in the promised land where nature is still uncultivated and there's no hunger or sickness or age.

I don't really know how I'd want it to be--I don't really hope anyone's right or isn't, I just hope we can make the best of it, however it started.

What I believe (no god, no afterlife, no spirits, etc.) is good with me. Sure I want everyone to be happy after they die (yes, even bad people) but living only once kind of gives it a niceness.

All I would care about would be a world where one can express themselves freely and safely, without the persicution and belittlement of others. It just sickens me to see people who preach individality yet turn around and mock those who freely practice this little item of self awareness. It would not matter to me if one were to live multiple lives or believe in this God or that God. As long as people respected one another.

What do I really want? Well, ultimately, I'd want what I believe to be right. (Who wouldn't.) And I'd hope to god that all of my fundimentalist relatives would be wrong.

Just logically, it makes no sense for a god to create this planet and put all these people on it, and then damn 3/4's of the world to eternal torment in hell. (Because hey, most of the world is not christian.)

Personally, I think god made the earth because he was bored. Wouldn't you be floating around in a void for eons?:)

I believe in the traditional idea of a christian god. Basically a kind and loving father figure that doesn't always make sense.

I believe that we don't live one life, but many lives, where we learn everything there is to know about the world, and understand. Also the world is there to be experianced. Sometimes the experiances suck, sometimes they're great, but you learn something either way.

When we have learned everything there is to know, we go to become one with god. Not to heaven, but to become a part of him.

I believe Jesus did exist and did die on the cross to help us understand love and sacrifice. However, I believe he was a being that had already attained enlightenment.

I believe that it doesn't matter who we choose to worship that as long as you are striving to do good and grow, that the name means nothing. (Like Dark Messiah).

I believe in Karma, and that everyone is responsible for their own actions. And what goes around most certainly comes around.

But, I do not believe in the idea of eternal damnation. People do some bad things in their lives, but there is no way someone deserves to stay in hell for eternity. At some point they would have atoned for what they did wrong.

Ultimately, everyone will be "saved". It just may take a little longer then others.

But, while I believe all of these things to be true, I still don't KNOW them to be true, because they aren't provable facts. It's one of those wait and see things.

Spirituality is a personal thing. I could tell myself to believe in something until I'm blue in the face, but it won't do any good if I don't feel it to be true.

But this is what I feel. And personally, I hope it's true. My belief's put more emphasis on striving to be a decent person, then simply saying "I believe."
