These are considered the two types of ... "dark angel" I guess.... there is very little written on them though that is new, compared to what I have seen, so can anyone freshen up our, meaning the whole boards, knowledge on what is the distinction between them, along with any other types of knowledge that relates to them..?

It's said that God did not spare angels any punishment when they sinned. They were sent to hell and waited for their judgement. Angels that committed the sin of abandoning their positions of authority were cast into the fires of hell also. The punishment for some of the "fallen angels" was to become a demon. Demons are supposedly in the service of Satan, much like angels are in the service of God and Jesus Christ. Demons recognize Jesus Christ as the son of God, just as they recognize God as a power. However, they don't revere him as the ULTIMATE power.

Demon spirits are said to possess the living mortal. (Mary Magdalene had seven inside of her before she became a Christian) And any Christian has the power to drive a demon from the body of someone. Anyone who has seen "The Exorcist" knows this to be true.

That's about the extent of my knowledge.

Someone please tell me this is a bad joke. Please tell me I'm imagining that there's a person in here stupid enough to mimic fagboy. This is sorely testing my sanity.

A demon is any evil supernatural entity of a non-human background. "Devil" generally denotes the position of Satan or one of the forms therein, such as Beelzibub or Asmodeus, though it can be used to describe any fallen angel.

Demons are the lesser forms of the evil type, whereas devils are the stronger versions who usually lead them...

Do you mean to say that there is more than one devil? I disagree. Just as there is one god, who has many "underlings", there is also one devil with all of his minions.

A devil is a strong version of a demon/daemon, and is usually confused with "Satan"/"The Ultimate Evil", who is actually just a powerful devil who has gained more so much power that he rules over the realm of hell... if he does indeed exist.

Actually, no. A demon is a malevonent (from a human perspective) entity of non-human origin. Many cultures and religions have demons. A devil however is a servant of Hell (or Mei, or Tartarus, or whatever), defined by the fact that they previously served absolute good but now serve absolute evil. In Judaic/Christian terms, a fallen angel. Though devil can be used to refer to any such entity, as a proper noun it implies one of the seven forms of the Devil; Satan, Lucifer, Mammon, Asmodeus, Metistophiles, Beliar, and Beelzibub. A demon in contrast does not necessarily serve anyone, and may not even be evil from a Universal standpoint.

Daemon used to be latin for "Spirit". Christians (there was one in particular who made this "discovery") decided that all daemons were evil spirits and changed the word to demon. Now you hear the names of prominent demons, such as beelzebud, asmodius, etc...and you start to wonder if there is a heiarchy of demons. No there isin't. Demons don't officialy exsist. All those names that you know of demons are pagan gods that were just intigrated with evil when monotheism came along. The truth about demons? They don't exsist, along with god. Imagine if we all devoted the time we devote to religion to getting that chick from dark angel in bed? That would rule!

There is more than one Devil, Hell is a triarchy(sp?) not a hierarchy.

They also say there are seven levels of Hell, so wouldn't it stand to reason that perhaphs there are even more than just the two? Besides I think demons are summonable, devils play with the summoner.

I started a thread about basically this oh! so long ago, but instead of digging up that, (I think it went astray...like every other thread I start... :p) I'll use the famous copy&paste.

Here's my two cents on Satan and Lucifer:

There seems to be much confusion about the origins of Satan and Lucifer. I have read up a little on the matter, and here's some of the information I found.

The earliest introduction of the devil is found in the Old Testament. But the descriptions are many and often confusing. In the Jews holy scripts we are told about Satan, in Greek diabolos, and Lucifer, the lightbringer. They represent the original dividing of the evil, though in the Middle Ages their appearances and functions melted into one.

In the earliest Jewish scripts the Evil is hardly present at all. Fair enough, the snake tempts Adam and Eve, and eventually leads to their downfall, but nowhere is it written that the Devil is the tempter. That is a much later Christian interpretation of the story. In the –Old testament Satan is mentioned not as a single entity, but in the form of a satan , meaning enemy of God. It is reasonable to assume that it was not just one, but many such enemies, satans.

The Jewish God was far from a loving and forgiving god. He was also the God of revenge, and his retribution upon the sinners was often cruel and merciless. When the highest God was also the one to bestow death and suffering upon earth, there was little need for an additional evil power. But over the centuries God becomes more and more good, and the devil figure grows in importance. According to religion scientists, this happened because of the heavy influence from the Persian demonology. Satan appeared as a single entity only after the Jews Babylonian exile in the 500’s BC.

Later on, Satan’s individualisation carries on, until he eventually becomes the great enemy, not only of God, but of Man as well. As his reign grows stronger, he gets competition from not only another devil figure, but a horde of small and big demons as well. Above all, his main competitor is Lucifer, the light bringer. Lucifer is described among other places in Isaiah 14, 12-14.

The story of Lucifer is in many ways similar to the Greek legend of Prometheus, who stole Zeus’ fire and gave it to the humans, thus making them less dependant on the gods. Lucifer is the Archangel who put himself above God by refusing to worship Gods newest creation, Man. In the Jewish-Christian way of thinking, pride is considered one of the seven deadly sins.

When Christianity appeared as an organized religion in the first few centuries after Christ, they adopted a well-developed hellmythos from the Jews.

Hopefully this rambling contributes to shed some light on this… if not, at least it gave me something to do.
