First off I myself am a DJ. I spin deathrock/punk/goth/industrial bands. Since I have started DJing I have run into some problems when it comes to my fellow DJs who spin only EBM. They will say things such as the following....
1. If you don't match beats you're not a DJ
2.Goth sucks(yet they DJ on goth nights)
3.Nobody wants to hear that crap any longer.
I am not saying that everybody who likes EBM is an elitist or that all DJs that spin it are closed minded.....but there is a sizeable amount of them who are. They bitch about goth clubs and yet they attend them. They are like a nasty virus! To me it seems like these elitists are people who were into the rave scene,and when that died out they took their music into the goth scene. If you listen to a DJ that plays nothing but EBM all fucking night isn't it like being at a rave but that everybody is dressed in black? I mean a little variety is a good thing...........

I got into a HUGE flame war with an EBM DJ when I lived in Portland Oregon. It actually spilled out into real life as well. I was making it known to the whole scene what I thought and about how more people would actually go to the clubs if they played music besides EBM. He threatened me with 'you better watch what you say because I know everybody and I could make it hard for you to DJ'. It was such bullshit!!!! The guy was sooooooooooo full of himself and an asshole. GRRRRRRRR!!!!!! Well I moved out of that town because I couldn't stand the closed minded crap that was going on there. Needless to say I have my first DJ gig coming up in the D.C. area and I am quite happy here because people seem to be more open minded about music.

Too true............LOL!!!!

ha I am a dj too, but I battle mix old school hip hop, although my problem is that, I cant get the kick ass noises, like Kilmore from incubus, or any of those other rad Dj's, how in the fuck do I get those . I think it has something to do with the crossfader, but who knows, help

I don't like going to goth/industrial clubs and hearing techno remix after techno remix of No Doubt and Missy Eliot. I wish someone would just play industrial all night, and not just until the crowds started to arrive.

And yeah, yeah.. EBM.. blah blah blah. It sucks because they don't spin any harsh EBM. Show them up. Bust out some Download and Biopsy.

EBM I can tolerate for brief periods of time only, but an entire night drives me bonkers. It sounds like techno, and I loathe techno!

I had a prick Dj get onto me one night (I used to radio DJ and only occasionally did gigs) that I couldn't mix beats.

I overlayed Megadeths train of consequences and RATMs killing in the name of and challenged him to do the same....he couldn't, he was too used to hearing the beat out in front :D

I also used to mix music from Kids tv shows with other stuff :D

try something like that and watch them squirm ;)

I can blend songs pretty well. I remember blending Die Die My Darling into Virus by KMFDM.........and it worked!!!LOL!!!!!!
