As a figurative thing, sure, just like a sense of humor. As something more, of course not. Now let all you soul pushing, angel lovers tell me the "truth".

View Full Version : Does the Soul exist? Heathen 01-16-01, 22:14 As a figurative thing, sure, just like a sense of humor. As something more, of course not. Now let all you soul pushing, angel lovers tell me the "truth". Twiztidsoul 01-16-01, 22:17 The soul exists to those who want it to. Some use it as a shed of hope. Why ask such a question, somthing such as your soul, maybe even your life shouldn't be questioned, it should only be left alone. Even if it doesn't exist, it is a symbol of hope to some. A symbol of a better place to come, a symbol of inner peace. I don't believe in a soul, I don't believe in somthing that keeps a body going other than the pure science of it... manifesto of osiris 01-16-01, 22:19 there is no soul because that would suggest a god who was active in our world..........obviously he is not, thus no soul. Heathen 01-16-01, 22:19 I never see harm in asking questions. You will have a hard time convincing me that certain things should not be scrutinized. manifesto of osiris 01-16-01, 22:20 but that was over simplified.......it goes much deeper then that but I dont want to start a discussion when im half baked. Heathen 01-16-01, 22:21 Also, I would be grateful to hear your own personal oppinion (which I believe you got to at the very end) as opposed to a politicaly correct speech on how we come from all different places and have all different beliefs. Heathen 01-16-01, 22:22 I don't think it goes any deeper than that. Why would there be a soul? It only goes deep if you assume a soul exists and have to get to the other end, but without this assumption it is as easy as not believing in Leprechauns (who, by the way, make very nice rainbows). Twiztidsoul 01-16-01, 22:24 That's basically what I said in my fisrt response TLH thank you, maybe some people will listen to you more than I. manifesto of osiris 01-16-01, 22:31 I s'pose...... Azrael 01-16-01, 22:34 Heh true to my character, I must ask: "What do you define as a soul?" Heathen 01-16-01, 22:36 That was my hidden weapon, actually. I was waiting for someone to say it existed then I'd ask them to define it. I got it from Dan Barker, who wrote Losing Faith in Faith. He asks christians he debates to define a soul and they never can. Morphine 01-16-01, 22:37 A soul exists in the minds of those who fear being nothing. But I'm tired, so the philosophical discussions don't do well with me at one in the morning, unless of course i woke up at one, which i didn't. blueboy 01-16-01, 23:27 i've asked myself the same question. in a world where freaked out psycho things didn't exist, i would say a soul is just as dumb as the christian god. i don't see the reason for a soul to exist. it seems that this myth came about from the same egocentric tendencies that gave birth to ideas of an afterlife. picture artificial intelligence. it is rather simple right now. 50 years from now it will be extremely complex, and be able to rationalize and create ideas of its own. 100 years from now it will be complex beyond reason. it will rationalize, create thoughts, create emotions, react to others much like humans do. now imagine that every human died and this artificial intelligence was left with no memory of how it came to be. it would probably create ideas of it having a soul, of a diety that created it. it would rationalize it's purpose and it's meaning. now picture that these little forms of AI are encased in hardware that wears down and breaks. it would probably create ideas of an afterlife. but we all know it's just a bunch of wires and metal put together shooting a billion electrons a billion different directions to create ideas, feelings, and thought. i would say humans are the same way. [Edited by blueboy on 01-16-2001 at 09:38 PM] Raziel 01-16-01, 23:28 the soul should probably exist. other wise, we would have nothing to loose, and there would be no point of living. Heathen 01-16-01, 23:30 Who ever said there was a point? Raziel 01-16-01, 23:31 Its late, Im tired, and Im not here to argue. just accept that thats my oppinion, all right? Heathen 01-16-01, 23:32 Only if you accept that's my question. Raziel 01-16-01, 23:34 I've accepted it since the day I lost my soul. I never meant to imply that there is a point to life, but I'll also never know. Azrael 01-16-01, 23:34 I think a soul exists. Otherwise what is the difference between a living being, and a cooling carcass? What happens in that infinitismally small time span in which this transition occurs? Something much have left the cells of the mortal body, and thus rendered it "dead" blueboy 01-16-01, 23:34 a point? this again is a tendency of egocentric attitudes. what is the point then? where did you find it? |
