Well, is has come and is more than halfway over by the time I am writing this, but I did and am doing my part to spread the news. I went into my local Target with a bag over my head that said "Fill the Emptiness, Buy nothing" on the back, "try to find some peace on sale" on one side, and, ont her other, "More clutter. More Debt. More emptiness. That's what you want?" I got kicked out after the first few minutes in the door w/ my empty shopping cart. I then walked around the store holdign up my bag and informing Target's prospective customers abut the event as succinctly as I could. They cmae out and tried to kick me off the premises, I left out of boredom w/ arguing wiht them... and fear.. I was, afterall, all alone in my protest.

I then, when I came home, told everyone on my favorite chatroom about it wihtt he simple message "Today is international Buy Nothing Day. Send the corporations a message!"

The protest holiday is on its eleventh year running. The day after American Thanksgiving, every year, is the largest shopping day of the year. The idea is simply, in protest, to cast your vote against a globalized economy. Some protests include a free credit-card-cutting service provided outside of malls, mock shopping sprees in rediculous outfits, what I did, simpyl getiting a bunch of friends together and pushign around an empty shopping cart all day, informing folks why it's empty... just about anything, really... The idea is to be creative.

To the best of my knowledge, it was and is pushed out by the magazine, Adbusters.

What do you think of this? What would you do/ will you do/ would you have done/ not done? Am I crazy.. Are we all crazy? Join the debate. Glabalization vs. Internationalism!!!

First I'd like to know what's wrong with a globalized economy.

Bilions of starving people across Africa and Asia? Arable land used for cash crops instead of food? Environmental laws not applying to foreign-based companies? Sweatshop labor? Enron-proportioned scandals? U.S. domination over internaitonal questions becuase they are the sole superpower?

You know ..if no one went out shopping the day after thanksgiving I really think it would fuck up the economy ..the stores would freak out because no one went shopping ..prices would drop even more ..

It would be fun to see. haha

I only bought 2 movie tickets and some coffee...so I did my part, more or less.

You know ..if no one went out shopping the day after thanksgiving I really think it would fuck up the economy ..the stores would freak out because no one went shopping ..prices would drop even more ..

And that, my friend, is the whole point.

Indeed, it's not as if today was a huge movie-going day.

but the big question is, did you like it?

Actually... Harry Potter is, in itself, a mighty good thing. It encourages kids to read. But It's sold out to practically everything, is the problem.

I agree, i like harry potter, not only for the sake of getting kids to read but getting them to use their imaginations.

and many wiccan people like this movie simply for the fact that it paints witches and warlocks in a positive light, shows that witch craft must be studied and mastered, and also introduce the idea of a good and bad side to everything...

i guess they take the liberties with the actual craft with a grain of salt...
