The slump of the NASDAQ and the attacks on the WTC towers have had far greater effect on the economy than the the national debt.
Still, the national debt will go down when more GOP candidates get elected as they will then be able to really make deep cuts in government spending. Dissolving entire agencies of the fed will end the deficiet spending.
