I somehow thought they would be something else, considering how many people yammer about them as though they were the most wonderful band with this dark, hypnotic music. Imagine me sitting here listening to it for the first time. Ok, don't. To me they are an inferior version of Lacuna Coil. Sort of like Lacuna Coil playing Linkin Park covers while Christina has a cold. I don't mind the woman's voice in Evanescence, it's pleasant enough, but it seems to lack any real strength or depth. I noticed that her voice is constantly multi-tracked, a common studio trick to make a person's voice appear more pleasing and powerful, with only a few short sections devoid of the layering. It's these that give it away, the girl hasn't the voice to carry the power of the expression in the songs their producer wrote for them. I may be focussing too much on that voice, but the guy's vocals are ultimately useless and the music is bland and uninspiring. Which of course is why I hear it on the radio at work all the time, now that I know who that is.
