The Father of the infamous Water Test..... though the actual origins of the Water Test are very obscure this German educator made it a popular test after publication of an obscure book wherein Scribonius recommends it as an infallible means of determining the guilt or innocence of a person accused of witchcraft. In this test the accused was crossbound with his/her right thumb tied securely to the large toe of his/her left foot and his left thumb to the right toe... after which the accused was placed face down in a body of water. He/she was judged guilty if he managed to stay afloat and innocent if they sank... Scribonius reasoned that since water was used to baptize those who embraced the christian faith God would not allow it to"enfold to its bosom" those who had given their allegiance to the Devil...
There were clearly no winners of this test.... the "innocent" drowned while the "guilty" were either burned, hanged, quartered and drawn, or beheaded.... there were a few other ingenious ways the guilty were put to death but these were the prohibited punishments as seen fit by the Church.... the christians were forgiving enough too allow those that drowned proper burial in hallowed ground... that was a sarcastic statement by the way.... very true but filled with sarcasm...... dripping with it actually
