Mirrors - 10-17-02

Mirror,
What do you see tonight?
A face? A hole?
A time?

My mirror!
Is your world of blind?
I’m addressing you tonight;
For in this hour,
Poor and weary,
I behold flashes of my life.

Reflections are so hard to discern
If we just turn on the four wheels
--Reflections of an age
That mirrors break behind
With debris that could denounce mean deeds.

Mirrors reflecting maddening memory
Gore – at agony of the heart-
My eyes wide open
Inverted into the light of glass
Revealed behind mirrors of foil sanity-,
I perceive a face with wrinkles
While spirits dance all around-;
It’s just a proof for days of misery and loom.

The mirror scatters,
The image multiplies at once;
I behold one but many faces
Shaped in one sense
Intensifying and alterin’ in mood
--shaped in joy and sorrow
In love and hate
In happiness and pain
In glory and failing deeds
In youth and years--
Of the past and present
And leading to a future
Of the outlandish!

Mirrors of forged impression;
I sense the forms,
Cries and laughter,
Grimaces and smiles;
A face that sole displays the outrage
Of the irony of times.

Face as reflections of the mortal,
Explaining with lashes
The sagacity of life like
Changing the doldrums,
Shifting figures,
With rapid hours;
Face as reflections under fluctuation.
