Martin Luther was actually a rat bastard. He was a racist, sexist asshole. Not that he wasn't right to criticize the church. Anyway, it's pretty much accepted fact in any reputable historical circle that all European civilization and memory of the Romans would've died out without the Christian church. Monks were the ones who preserved and recorded history from the time of the fall of the Roman Empire up until the Renaissance.
