A story in prose;

The Warmth,

Sharp, stern and yet politely intent was the sound
Thundering through her world of silent diffidence
Three times, each time identical to the prior

His knocks echoing through the hardly lit home
Moments later the door cracks open and a soft voice is heard
“Can I help you” came gentle as a summers breeze

Respectfully sensual, staggered him into a sigh
Through the pouring rain, under his hooded garment
His expression was next to impossible to make, yet

Haunting, one did not even need to see it, for it filled the air
sufficating air, made the winds cry out in despair
She felt it too, curiosity pushing her to peer through

Through a deeply aching gentle voice he said, “no trouble”
Amidst his words time crawled, wept and slipped

“Just passing through here, just wandered if you would
Take a stray old dog of these wet streets, just tonight,
Just till the break of dawn”, an inept silence befalls

Much much too loud to hear, far too unbearable to be,
Attempting a soft filter, reiterating his measley plea
“Just a chance to dry abit, perhaps a couple of hours”

His confidently inchanting voice reduced to a broken squeel
She searched for his face, impossible was the night’s veil
Uniluminated, light slithered off him, they couldn’t adhere

Whilst witness to the dash of a fleeting moment, a flash
From his eyes, besieging her, in an instant opened a pathway
Upon an ocean of tears and far too many broken years

She could feel them, as if the sun had shed its warmth
Warmth filling her heart, she welcomed it with a breath
The shiny globes of gentle light glowing into the dark night,

Seemed, they could see right through her, rushed with shame
Naked, vunerable she felt, all this in a single moment
Yes time had long stoped, prior to this apparant pause

Where eternity is kept for some, holding no stock to others
He was soaked to the core, his style and attire reeked of class,
All bearing high quality, all attesting a man’s great taste

She then chose to break the silence, offering him these words
“I’m very sorry but I am married, expecting him home soon
I fear his regards, allowing you in his home, a stranger,
Allowed to roam here within”, upon her lips a frozen smirk

The enigmatic moment befalls, sky cries out, angels bleed
The man alas never offensive in demeanor, perpetuating now
Defensively aligned, appeared to be leaving, dismal reality
He had already left, apologeticly going through the motions

He then steps off the porch, departing pauses for an instant
Looks back, their eyes lock, oblivious the world looks away
Obtuse, yet stories were told memories were shared and
Dreams layed shattered, all only debris, for he walked away

She still stood frozen, hence he had long departed,
His figure, hauntingly swallowed by the view, devoured
Fiercely by the relentless storm, she didn't blink, she came undone

Struggling for strength, to unglue, to step in and close the crack
Though, found it impossible to remove her eyes from his trail
Mind scattered and pacing a million miles an hour,

The warmth she’d begun to recall, his face now all that she saw
She was suddenly rushed with unwanted concerns, a teary gawk
None seen a tear or a care upon her in years, callus and coldhearted
Heart barried and sealed, now reawakened, brushed by the warmth

Recalling it once more, the one she’d missed its touch for too long
She had everything, big house, expensive car, maids and servants
Above all a rich husband, a very wealthy man provides her all he can
Residing on easy street, yet the warmth like always elluding her,

She just couldn’t buy it, She knew it once, all too well
Now no matter how she tried she just couldn’t hide it
Couldn’t deny the love she’d felt, the warmth she could not have

For he left her and took it with him upon her wish, seemed long ago
It’s been a decade scince he dissappeared, left and her heart followed
Like footprints in sand, like teardrops in rain, left without a trace

Banished by her, against his will, she beckoned him and cried
“Loving you still, after all we been through and all the shame,
All the guilt barred by ‘tis heart, I can not suffer you any longer”

He’d always said the only thing I wish is for that beautiful smile
To sit upon your lips and never ever leave, thus she knew well
How to beat his will, she said I’m happier without you here

Her fears ruled her life, she feared the pain so, the pain of loving
“I fear this pain, it consumes me whole, I live in this fear forever”

She now again shimmered in fear of an awakened heart, feelings
She shuttered much harder, her drawn on smile, began to falter
Smile circled upon by a frown, soon the frown could only be found

Rushed by a flood of excruciating pain pushed her inside,
The doorremained cracked, scattered and scorned, faintly she heard
An old love song they’d cheerished ~don’t fear the reaper~

Her eyes strained by his vision, he had always been a fool made
A fool made a thousand moons endured, and would a thousand more
Without falter, till today still scratching and reaching to regain love,
A love that this world lost, yet tonight this fool sunk a new low

His heart could still hold a beat, yet his eyes showed him away
All too clear, he was no longer here, surrendered now at last
On a clear starfilled night he had wished upon a shooting star

Wished to die with her love not in hand, not to suffer his
Cruel mind’s treachery, She remembered that night, the pain of it
The memory alone proved too much for her newly warm heart

Tragicly the heart gave way, certain meassure of revenge, some say
At dawn the storm vanished in to the morning sun, and so did he
Vanished without a sign, not even a body was ever found.
