The CHruch during the 12th Century was at the hight of it's power and was ruthlessly inttending to maintain that power. THe introduction of an order called the inquisition was designed with the intention of maintianing the purity of the mother chruch. The Inqusition had three main aims. Find Heresy, Denounce Heresy, Destroy Heresy. These were predominantly seen as Cathars, Jews and moors, but Science came under scrutiny too
Roger BAcon was a man years ahead of his time. For the same inventive genius that earned Di Vinci the title genius landed BAcon 7 years in prison. For failing tor ecant his works on philopsophy and science, he was almost put to the torch. If it hadn't been for his work on gunpowder and the potenital military value of it winning him many powerful patrons to over-power the church, then there would not have been anything stopping the works of this genius from being lost forever as he was burnt on a pyre of his own works of genius.
13 Century France, Under the orders of the Chruch Works by Galen, Hippocrates, Aristotle Euclid and many others are burnt inb a public display of anti-heretical thought. Jaques Lepecher is burnt also for transporting these books into france.
Spring 1209 Lucius of Duron finishes building an annex to his keep. This the first great library of greek and roman works. He collects many rare and irreplaceble texts in it. He has monks who set about copying these works. Thought of a new dawn of learnign spread throughout Accademia. Cambridge College puts in orders for copies. Winter 1209, Duron Keep lies in ash and rubble. Surrounded by forces under the direct command of Cardinal Valaud, the Keep is burnt to the gorund. There are no survivors
