I happen to be content with my reality as it is, and therefore do not need to off-set my perception in order to see things the way that I like them. I choose clean. And on addiction, addiction occurs when a stimulus is over-used. Normally, the pleasure center of the brain is where the stimulus is registered and experienced. If a pleasure is over-indulged in, it's receptors are moved into the memory center of the brain. This is what causes cravings. The brain, and therfore the body, can remember the pleasure that a certain stimulus produces, and make a person seek after it like they would food. Absolutely ANY pleasure causing stimulus can be addictive. On the genetic basis of addiction, it is there, but not in force. A person may have a genetic predispostion to dependant personality disorder. Or they may have a predisposition to be irresponsible. Alcohol has been around long enough that certain families have a gene that has information regarding the affects of alcohol on it. So they do have a predispostion to enjoy alcohol more, and therefore to use it more. |
