Ok, yet once again...
To me, a label is not something I "hide within." A label is something I search for, I try to find a one word description of what I feel, I search and search and search for something that fits one particular aspect of my personality, and then I GRAB it. This way, tomorrow, when I try to describe who I am, it doesn't take 25 hours, it takes a small collection of single words, labels if you will.
I am bipolar, but that's not a label, that's a psychological disorder I suffer from.
I associate with the Gothic subculture. No, I do not fit the Gothic stereotype.
I am currently agnostic, but I am my own brand of agnostic (I am quite religious, but I still don't "know" yet).
I am a determinist, yet this word doesn't begin to delve into my metaphysical theories.
I can continue for ages, giving a rundown of who I am, and still fall short; but the beauty of labels is that they aid in shortening the discussion (I can say agnostic bipolar determinist Romantic Gothic... etc., and cut all of the extra talk, and you have some feeling of who I am. You don't KNOW me, but will you ever?). Bismarck once said "Fools say they like to learn from their experiences, but I prefer to learn from the experience of others."
