But here's the thing. They have a stable shelf life of 100 years. If you take a pack of 2 twinkies you can see how resilient they are.

Take one out, set it in the microwave upside down so the creme doesn't run out and nuke it for 10 minutes. Let it cool back to room tempurature and you can't tell it apart from the one still in the package.

They are really scary that way.
