That said, when it comes to a lot of laws pertaining to firearms in the US, there are a lot of stupid ones out there (but than again, a lot of laws don't make a lot of sense). I vaguely remember something about the Brittish outlawing guns owned by colonists as being the reason for why there is this "Right to bear arms". Not sure if this was the only reason though. But a lot has changed since then and not every invention should be handled alike.

I can understand why people would want a gun or rifle (thinking about hunters and old ladies that want to feel safer particularly), but when it comes to machine guns etc. I go wtf? Anybody care to enlighten me why people would need something that can rapidly shoot a number of bullets in a short amount of time?

Allowing citizens the right to bear arms protects said citizens from a criminal government. Our forefathers learned from the british that an unarmed populace is at the will of a harsh and cruel governance. They also saw that having an armed populace made it harder for the British to take us back over.

Machine guns are actually quite fun to shoot although very expensive. Once again, a car can easily kill just as many or more people(do not have to reload the car) as a machine gun and I do not see us banning the use of cars.

Anyone attempting to invade the United States would find themselves up against a well armed, well trained civilian populace and more than likely get their asses handed to them.

Also any criminal invading my home will find himself up against a 1911 .45 caliber defense system

If you disarm the populace you invite crime by telling th ecriminals that legal citizens are undefended against mugging, rape, home invasion, and whatever other criminal activity they feel like pursuing where-in you may be the victim
